hi all
i used to have all my data on my macbook and since i bought the air i started transfering everything to it

everything was fine until i tried to hook my iphone on the usb and sync it

the iphone drops the connection with the itunes and the whole syncing progress cancels...

i've tried every possible advice i found in other forums but nothing worked...
i uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, i tried installing earlier version of itunes, i restored my iphone (on my other mac), i manually deleted some itunes program files before reinstalling the new itunes....nothing nothing nothing....
i keep getting error messages like:

"itunes could not connect to the iphone because the pairing record is missing"

"application AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpextedly"

"itunes could not connect to iphone because an invalid response was received from the device"

and every time i try to restore iphone from the air i get an error(6).....

while everything works great on the old macbook, the macbook air seems to have problems connecting with the phone...

the funny thing is that even if the connection between iphone and itunes drops, i can still manage to "see" the iphone from "iphoto" and import pics on my air

i really don't know what's going on here and there seems to be no one that knows what i should do

furthermore, when i plug my scanner on the air, it doesn't respond at all....
it's as if the usb slot ain't powerful enough to connect with those devices

the scanner also works great on my old macbook

if anyone has any idea or a similar problem to mine, please drop a line cause i've already started regretting buying it.......
thank you all in advance :)

I have had no issue with my iPhone, is yours jailbroken? As far as the scanner goes mine has it's own PS.

I have noticed that other accessories like external HD's, etc, no longer need their own power source with the air. A couple which needed it with my old PBG4 or my Winblows machine do not with the air.

i finally made the scanner work by changing the usb cord with another one....

as for the iphone, it is jailbroken but i don't believe that this should be a problem cause the exact same device works just fine in 4 different macbooks i tried it on.....

i even tried to virginize the baseband(?) or the bootloader(?) or whatever makes the iphone hacked, recovered it to it's initial factory virgin state, plugged it in and nothing seems to have repaired the issue.....(this process could not be performed on the air of course)

i even updated the itunes to the newest available version (7.6.2.9) and still nothing
i'm pretty sure it has to do with some settings the macbook air comes with....

please help....
it's ridiculous having the air and not be able to work with your iphone on it :(((((

You know I had that problem today when I was moving select stuff from my iMac to my MBA. iTunes kept telling me that the iPod was disconnected unexpectedly and it kept doing it over and over and over, etc... Then I ejected it normally, let it go through it's little process until I could use it again (the iPod I mean) and then plugged it back in and it worked fine. Haven't tried with the iPhone yet, but it may be the same problem.

I'm pretty sure i solved the problem...

So if anyone ever deals with a problem similar to mine, keep in mind what i did....

it was hard for me to believe that there would be some kind of software problem cause i never dealt with one before, so thumbs up for apple....

i started thinking that since the scanner worked with a different usb cord, maybe the iphone will work with another cord as well....
i changed 4 different cords to make it work, and it worked!

so be aware that the macbook air has serious issues with certain kinds of usb cords and may not work AT ALL with the connected device.....

thank you anyways and if anyone finds this thread helpful, i'll b very pleased :)

@mcgr

Was the iPhone cable that failed initially a 3rd party cable?

...no it was the official apple usb cable (both the dock and the simple cable)
