Hi there

I've had a MacBook Air M1 (2020 model) that has had very little use since I purchased it last May. I admittedly haven't used it for a little while, and after switching it on tonight, it appears the battery won't charge, and I've been recommended to service the battery:

I've run a diagnostics check and all that appeared was a PPP007 code indicating there's an issue with the power adapter, but having tried another adapter, I'm obviously convinced it's the battery. However running a check in Terminal raised some other concerns with the 'permanent failure status'...

Does this look like I only need to replace the battery, or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

there
I would use that MacBook Air more, check to see if the battery will decrease, the increase in time when charging.
is anything else wrong with the MBA?

why don't you use the MacBook Air will be everyone else main ? here,
if they replay....

Thanks for this. The issue is the MacBook won't work unless connected to the power adapter, it just goes dead instantly when power is removed. I can't even run it down as it's at 1% and goes dead. Otherwise, it seems fine in every other way when connected to power. But it isn't accepting charge at all.

Thanks Robert! I'm actually hoping it is that as that's easier (and cheaper) than the motherboard being replaced!
Hopefully so. If it ends up being the MB itself, I would consider selling for what you can get for it and buying another Mac. Moving forward, it would be a good idea to use the app AlDente on your next Mac.

I have the same problem, I just bought a new MacBook Air m1 and it couldn’t charge and can only turn on while connected to power.

Replace the battery. When you let it sit and discharge for a long period below a critical voltage, it will become permanently damaged.
^^^This! I lost a laptop battery for that very same reason. Laptop batteries risk permanent damage if they fall below a certain charge level and stay that way for a long period of time. The best way to preserve a battery during storage is to charge them to around 50% and keep them away from extreme temperatures.
