Since Tahoe was released, I’ve had major issues with my MacBook. The first beta wouldn’t install on the external drive. Fifteen days later, Beta 2 came out, which installed without problems and is the version I’m currently using — almost everything works fine.

Yesterday, Beta 3 was released, and unfortunately, I’m once again unable to download it.

Reading various threads, it seems the issue might be related to Rosetta. I followed some guides and managed to remove Rosetta, but even after carefully going through all the steps, there’s still no way to download Beta 3.

I’m starting to have doubts about Tahoe — I haven’t experienced an issue like this with Apple since way back in 2008.

Thank you for the heads-up, but if I need to use a beta operating system, it’s because I develop apps for iPhone and I need to ensure they’re compatible with the final version that will be released in September/October.

Is there any kind of error or something in the Console logs indicating why it does not download?

Honestly, I don’t know… many were saying it was a problem related to Rosetta. I uninstalled it, but even after removing it, the update still wasn’t showing up.
I eventually solved it by downloading the full installer and installing it… now it seems to be working fine.
Personally, I’ve been using beta systems for several years — I need them because I have to test the apps I develop to ensure they’re compatible with the new iOS versions.
I just wasn’t expecting this many issues… in my opinion, they’re focusing more on iPhone and iPad, considering the larger number of users compared to Mac users.

The Beta 3 release was actually pulled and replaced with a slightly updated version on Monday, so there were a lot of people (myself included) who couldn't download it through Software Update until later in the evening. The fact that you are installing it to an external drive adds an additional layer of complexity on top of what installing a beta entails on its own accord.

Are you also wiping the target drive before installing, or updating an already installed operating system? Normally I only wipe every couple of years, but with beta versions I'd probably do it more often, especially when encountering issues.

No, I had installed Beta 2, because Beta 1 couldn't be installed on either an internal or external drive.
Then when Beta 3 was released, I tried Software Update, but unfortunately nothing, until this morning, when I downloaded the full version and decided to install it... it did everything by itself... I think... without necessarily having to format it.

Yes, I had read about these problems, which depended on what I understood from Rosetta.
I've never had problems installing beta versions to an external drive, and I've never had a problem with Tahoe. This is the second problem I've encountered. I don't know what Apple is up to.

Hi,
Yes, I'm quite aware of this, but if I decide to install a beta version on my Mac, it's because I need to test it. Since I'm developing apps for iOS systems, I need to test beta versions of iOS.
