Hey all.

In about an hour, I have gone from 100% to 70% on my MB Air M1 Big Sur 11.2.2. The only thing open is Google Chrome. I haven't used anything else, and my screen brightness is at half way.

To be honest, its been like this since I received it a month or so ago.

Are there any tricks or resets that can help with this battery life? It is honestly nowhere near what others are getting in realtime, let alone the 10 hours they state (In the perfect environment).

Try uninstalling chrome and use safari... Chrome is notorious for draining battery...

In System Preferences > Battery you can find out how your level has performed over recent timeframes. And in System Preferences > Screen Time > App Usage you can see which apps have been used the most.

Also, it's best to update your Mac to the latest OS. Do that.

Hi I,

I've got some odd battery behaviour going on as well.

Goggle searching, I came across this Apple Diagnostics testing you can do:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202731

I may try that today, to see what it says.

Hope that helps! :)

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

Apple Diagnostics, formerly known as Apple Hardware Test, can check your Mac for hardware issues.

If you think your Mac may have a hardware issue, you can use Apple Diagnostics to help determine which hardware component might be at fault. Apple Diagnostics also suggests solutions and helps you contact Apple Support for assistance.

Two ways to find the culprit.

1) click the battery in the menubar and see whether something is listed under apps using significant energy
2) launch Activity Monitor, switch to the Energy tab, and sort by Energy Impact or 12 hr Power

Most likely you will find Google Chrome, which is a well-known resource and energy hog.
