So to make it quick. I hardly use my MacBook air m1 as a laptop but as a desktop for my Odyssey g9 5120x1440 @ 120hz. it works but I have tested on a 2560x1440 @ 144hz monitor the issue I notice is the monitor and settings may show 120hz but the mouse cursor and safari is still set at 60hz. So the mouse just appears laggy compared to the 120hz. So moving windows appears 120hz smooth but any animation such as scrolling on safari is at 60hz. mouse cursor is also at 60hz. Honestly it feels apple just didn't think this through. obviously my MacBook air m1 monitor is 60hz but not my external monitor which my MacBook air m1 seems to like clamshell mode; But apple decided to still lock a lot of its software to 60hz.

Can anyone else test this out, atm I tried it on 2 different monitors
Odyssey G9 5120x1440 240hz
BenQ Xl2730z 2560x1440 144hz

I just need to see if you guys notice scrolling on safari animation is at 60hz even when 120hz is supported and set to 120hz

also test if your fps goes to 120fps here https://www.testufo.com

Tested Brave Browser which is a chromium browser and 120hz works

If I'm not mistaken, anything 4K and up in resolution is stuck at 60 Hz (or 60fps) with external monitors.
nope 120hz works for 5120x1440, technically 5120x1440 is less than 4k. but I just figured out the issue I was having

1. Safari doesn't support 120hz on MacBook Air m1. even with external monitor supports it, so for 120hz brave Browser and Google Chrome work; but not official safari
2. the mouse lag is because apple only supports 120hz polling rate for their official mouse and trackpad 2
3. once the mouse lag was corrected by connecting one of my mouses that supports 1000hz polling rate by wire the mouse jutter was gone and it improved my 120hz so animations felt smoother

That makes more sense. I didn't realize Safari was limited.
