Hey guys,

I was very active shortly before and after the release of the M1 Macbooks in this forum. But shortly after buying my Macbook Air M1 (I have the 8GB Ram, with 512GB SDD version) I was very satisfied with the performance of the MBA (except the bluetooth issues) and I didn't read too much here, so there might be a solution/request for my issue already:

The M1 is famous for its high performance under little to no temperature climb of the processor. I could make several hours Zoom/Skype conferences and also render Videos in video editing programmes without the Macbook getting hot (maybe slightly warm in the middle top area of the keyboard).

It changed recently. I noticed the high temperature first time maybe 1 month ago. I was speaking on Zoom and after 1-2 hours it was quite hot. Also 2 weeks ago I was watching Youtube videos and streaming videos and the Macbook Air got very hot. This very unspecific usage and the temperature rise made me suspicious. With very hot I mean around 50° Celsius (measured with Coconut Battery). I measured all this with the Macbook NOT connected to the energy plug (this normally increased temperature).
I checked the Activity Manager which App could be the reason for that but I wasn't successful in my research. Also the latest Update didn't change anything.

I am sure that until April I wasn't able to bring my Mac Air above 40° Celsius, no matter what I worked with (I never did stress tests, but my normal workflow was surprisingly never enough to even warm it up). I am not a heavy user becuase my main workstation is a desktop PC, and I sometime don't use my MBA for several days, and I leave the Macbook closed in a leather envelope.

What sign could this be? Do you have this issue as well? SHould I worry?

What is the ambient temperature? Are you in an air conditioned office? Much of the US is experiencing above average temps.

Ambient temps can make a very substantial difference. My iMac 5K fan runs almost 1000RPM higher when the temps are in the 90s F / 30s C compared to when it's 70s / 20s to maintain the same general CPU/GPU temps.

As the M1 Air has no fan and depends on passive cooling, I would not at all be surprised to see the temperature fairly higher when the ambient is also fairly higher.

Gosh thats awkward I wasnt thinking about it.
Yes its hot here, around 28-37 Celsius. This explains it probably, but also give a point to the Pro MB
