Hi,

I have the issue that is outlined in this YouTube video:

My M1 Macbook Air is connected to the LG Monitor using HDMI going into a dongle connected to the USB-C port. The monitor is set to show two HDMI connections side-by-side between this Mac and another Dell laptop. The Dell laptop is set to a custom resolution of 1720x1440 and it take up the full half of the screen as expected. However, the Mac has vertical bars. I have tried using BetterDisplay as well as SwitchResX to force a 1720x1440 resolution. SwitchResX wasn't able to do this and when I tried with BetterDisplay, the display was squashed.

Has anyone tried this successfully on a Mac?

Thanks!

I'm having this problem. I have a 42" Acer monitor that supports picture-by-picture. I have a Microsoft Surface laptop running just fine in one half of the screen at 1920x2160 (an 16:18 ratio). The m1 Mac, however, can be forced to that resolution using SwitchresX or BetterDisplay but the screen is always squished with large black bars either side.

Did you make any further progress?

I have a LG 43U700T. I’m using a MacBook Air M1 (OS Ventura) and MB Pro M1 (Monterey). The latter is a work laptop and locked down so I can’t upgrade the OS. BUT, my MBA is always squished and the MBP is absolutely fine. Both are connected via USB-C to HDMI cables. I’ve exhausted various troubleshooting and can‘t resolve the issue with the MBA, regardless of which input I use. So, I surmise it might be something possibly with Ventura, but IDK.
