MacBook Air M1 won’t turn on when connected via USB C

I’m able to keep my Intel MacBook Pro closed, and when I connect my LG monitor (96W Power Delivery) via USB C, it automatically turns on and displays on the monitor.

When I unplug it and connect it to my M1 MacBook Air, I only hear the charging sound and that’s it - it doesn’t turn on the computer. I could have sworn this used to work only a few days ago?

I have the same issue with my new M1 Macbook Pro; the old Intel based Macbook Pro is turning on without any issue.

I don't understand why you would want that over waking from keyboard/mouse.
