Hi All,

Hoping to find a solution here.

So my current setup is

Monitor: Dell 34 Inch Model Number S3422DWG
Docking Station: HP USB-C Dock G5, model number: 26D32AA

My issue is if I use the display port cable to connect the monitor, the clamshell mode does not work, the screen will just remain blank, detecting for signal. But if I use HDMI cable, everything works perfectly.

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this issue with their MacBook Air M2? I have tried a new Display Port cable and still could not get the clamshell mode to work.

Note: for my windows laptop, I can get both DisplayPort and HDMI to work in clamshell mode.

Thanks!

I use USB-C to DP port on m2 MBA and Dell 27 inch 2k monitor, everything works fine.
You may try to change the hub.

I have an M2 Air that runs mostly in clamshell mode, and is connected to a Dell P2719H via an Anker 565 hub.

The DP port works fine.

The HDMI port works, except the monitor doesn't wake up when it has been in power saving mode. I have to switch it off and on again. But it works fine if I direct connect it to the Air (USB-C to HDMI). Only a problem when going via the hub (HDMI to HDMI).

I use the DP port on the hub, you won't be surprised to learn.

I have given up. Yesterday, I managed to get it working using DisplayPort but unable to replicate it again today.

1. Turn on the mac
2. Connect to the dock, and connect the monitor to the dock using HDMI cable
3. Connect the monitor to the dock using DisplayPort cable, and keep the HDMI cable connected to the dock too
4. Unplug the HDMI cable
5. Worked fine for the rest of the evening

This morning, I turn on the Mac and kept the connection the same (using DisplayPort and the issue came back). Try to replicate the above 5 steps, and it worked somewhat intermittently

I got a feeling that I might need to buy a Thunderbolt 3 dock as the one I am currently using is USB-C dock.

Note: again my work Windows based laptop works without issue with any settings.

Sounds like your current dock is underpowered. Take a look at OWC docks. They are excellent.

It is a possibility

But it works perfectly for my worklaptop (Lenovo Thinkpad). Also does DisplayPort actually require more wattage compare to HDMI?
