Bought the new MacBook Air M2, "M2 chip with 8‑core CPU, 10‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine" 512 gb SSD hard drive.

Significant light bleed on the upper right hand ledge visible in the attached photograph.

Using the "Touch ID' feature to (try to) wake from sleep -- 90% of the time -- will cause the screen to flash bright but not wake the machine up, have to hit the button a second time. (yes, the button, and my hands, are clean. And I've deleted and remade the fingerprint profile and restarted and so on and so on and so on.)

Anybody else having problems like these?

Photo wouldn't attach to original post. I'm on a roll with computers these days.

My M2 is perfect. Yours isn't. Send it back, get a replacement. Done.

I’d return it for the light bleed problem but the second issues has been on both my M1 MacBook Air and now the M2.

I just hit the space bar to wake up the MacBook and then put my finger on the TouchId—don’t press the key, just lightly touch it. It’s been a problem for literally years now. I don’t think Apple intends to fix it.

What you're seeing is normal, because that's not how to wake the machine. Do what @jdb8167 suggests, just touch any button and then rest your finger on the TouchID sensor. I usually tap the right arrow key, but to each his own.

Seems like a bug to me. What’s the point of turning on the computer, having it log in and then immediately turning back off. Why wouldn’t leaving it on be the expected behavior?

I'm not sure why so many of you are trashing the OP for asking questions. I get so damn tired of the fan club members and their Apple worship culture. Apple can make great devices, but they can also screw them up, and sometimes do. Apple certainly screws up the software these days. And as far as that wake ID button, it is a stupid design that isn't all that intuitive. Yes you have to touch another key first, then hold your finger over the sensor, but why! Why couldn't the morons at Apple simply design a single touch system rather than a convoluted and non-intuitive one?

OP, as far the screen bleed, no that isn't normal or acceptable. Take it to an Apple store, or if it is still within the return period you can simply return it.

I always wake up my M1 MBA and Intel MBP by touching the TouchID button. No other buttons.

The M1 always immediately wakes up, restores the session, and displays the screens. No fuss, no muss.

The Intel MBP will sometimes flash the screen and then tell me to touch the TouchID button to unlock with TouchID. I think that because it is slower to wake up, there can be a timing issue that misses doing both wake and authenticate at once. I use an external screen so, waking involves at least 4 Flash/Refresh cycles on the screens as it decides what is where. The M1 is smooth.

Not really seeing that.
There was a little shade over the complaint about flex in the lid, which is likely to be expected. The other complains are probably valid and it would take someone who knows what it should look like to evaluate and reach a conclusion.

That doesn’t work on either my M1 MacBook Air nor my M2 MacBook Air if enough time has passed where the computer is sleeping as opposed to just having the screen off. Merely touching the Touch ID does nothing. Pressing the Touch ID wakes the computer, logs in and then immediately turns back off. A subsequent press wakes and logs in normally.

Odd. When I come in in the morning, all I need to do is briefly tap the TouchID button and it wakes up and shows the screen(s). I usually manually toggle Sleep to force it as the automatic sleep is set too long.
