I was curious to see others opinions on this one. I’ve had an intel MacBook Air for some time 2012 I believe. It is an i7 8gb 512ssd so was quite upgraded at the time.

It’s dying takes ages to run anything now and a few too many windows open and the fan kicks up like anything.

So waited u til the revised MacBook Air arrived.

Going through the spec I was going to upgrade the processor and max out the ram to 24gb but I was going to keep the ssd at 512.

I don’t really store anything locally most of it is either on a one drive or a symbology disk station.

Oh and I was going to stick with space grey not the unfortunate midnight colour fingerprint/scratch issue.

Would anyone do any different?

I would say that's a good choice, you might even be fine on 16GB of RAM too. Maybe others can help advise with that.

In regards to storage, that also is a good choice especially as you use one drive etc.

Those are fantastic choices as long as you know 512GB is sufficient for another several years - for me it was as well, so I can relate.

I had 2 M2 Airs before settling on an M2 MBP and can definitely say Midnight was not the color for me, Starlight was the other one I had and it was beautiful, though I like Space Grey just as much.

Steer clear of both the Midnight and Starlight options. Judging by posts on this forum, Midnight is a fingerprint magnet and starlight has razor sharp edges

There is no scratch issue with the Midnight M2. It is the same as any other color as to fingerprints and scratching. Consider if your storage needs change in the next year or so. Can you still get by with 512? If so, you should be good to go.

I like my Midnight but I can’t think of anything more personal with a computer than what color to get. It sounds like you have everything else well in hand.

Have you looked at the 14" MBP given the amount of money you are throwing at this?

Yes, and I would be looking at £400 more for the same type of spec, although slightly more ram. I don't need an MBP as I don't do video editing, graphic design, etc (well sometimes use photoshop but that's it).

I did pop in to Currys to see the unit and they had one, it was a fingaprint magnet. As to the scratching, it was something I read - https://www.tomsguide.com/news/you-might-want-to-avoid-the-new-midnight-macbook-air-m2-heres-why

Still toying with the idea of spending the extra £180 and getting the storage upgrade.

I suppose another way to look at it (not sure what it is worth) but if I can get something like £200 for my old MBA then it counteracts the increase in the cost of another upgrade :)
