MacBook Air , Next Version?

Hi, Iam looking forward to get new laptop.

My current laptop is LG LW40, which is kind of old technology nowdays..

It's been 3 years , and have these specs.

It runs MS XP Home Edition, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M
Processor 1.73GHz, 1GB RAM..

How does this compare to MacBook Air SSD version?


And will there be newer version of MBA since Samsung made it's 256GB of SSD

and Intel will announce newer version of chips?

Any opinions appreciate..Thanks !

Well, the two obvious differences:

- the Air runs OS X
- the Air is built like a beautiful battle axe, not like a plastic TV remote

I think you'll notice a shocking difference right away

And will there be newer version of MBA since Samsung made it's 256GB of SSD and Intel will announce newer version of chips?

There may be very minor bumps in CPU speed and memory, but nothing like a CPU leap or 256 GB SSD. Don't expect anything worth waiting for until January.

2 things I've been telling prospective buyers since I got my Air:

- You really, really have to hold it and carry it around for a few minutes before the form factor sinks in. Then try picking up a MacBook Pro - it'll feel like a suitcase!
- It's not nearly as underpowered as some will have you believe. I run tons of intensive apps on mine and it purrs.

Sure, but not in the short term. There's no 1,8" version of this drive yet, and even if there is, Apple will probably wait until it reaches the 1000$ mark before they implement it.

I think in the next version of the Air, we will probably see a 160GB iPod drive and the same 64GB SSD at a reduced price. Maybe even a BTO 128GB flash drive. They will most likely use the Intel SSD's though.

I hope the next version has increased clock speeds. I think it can be done with a 45nm process. A 2GHz Air should be possible.

I couldn't agree more. I have serious MBAir love *sighs* its truly a wonder to hold and use. Even though many people use their laptops at home and don't bring them out its really amazing to hold and just see how it easy it is to have with you - it completely removes the fact that youre carrying something and makes it almost like the current gen nano - put it in your pocket and dont worry, I often carry mine with my iphone!

As you can see from my sig I have an massively powerful machine but for simple browsing and docs I think the SSD is faster than even my MBP ( a bit gutted about that really!!)

If the size of the hard drive isn't an issue ( i have 120gb itunes collection alone) and you like the form of the 13" screen then - GO GO GO GO

Truly an amazing machine and buying it isn't just like buying a dell its buying a piece of computer history and the footprint of all those to come

All I can see them doing is moving the processors to 1.8 and 2ghz, and the hdd to 160gb 4200rpm and the SSD to 128gb, and keeping the prices the same. Probably some time around October ready for Christmas.

And wideholic, yes the Air is faster than your current machine.

faster, cheaper, larger hd for sure as has been the evolution of all laptops i have seen in the last ten years when i got my first laptop

maybe there will be a new mba this year, and maybe with firewire and audio in ports, too

i doubt it, but maybe there will be a mba with larger screen as a bigger brother in the mba line

i would look to see a new mba late summer/early fall, and of course, sometime early next year, too

by this time next year, the mba will have been upped twice in specs

The Air will move to Penryn style CPUs in the next few months. There may be a speed bump, but I would not look for anything significant. The benefits of the new CPU will be a bit better performance, less heat, and better battery life.

apple probably made a lot of sacrifices to get it as thin as it is

as time goes on and technology moves forward, there will be super thin laptops with many ports, yet in a very logical and beautiful design, and i hope apple is always in the forefront

i can see some sort of iphone which has the full power of a macbook one day and that would be great...that, and, hehe, dumping at&t in the states

also, i like how the imac has progressed and i am yet to see the thin one, which i think i may do today if the dealer has it in

Actually, I see more and more devices void of external connections. Wireless USB and future wireless technology will take the place of wired connections. We're a few years away from that, but wires will be a thing of the past in the not so distant future.

The macbook air is it's time ahead. In daily use I noticed that I don't miss any of the ports or it's DVD drive. As a matter of fact. I was planning to buy a Imac together with my MBA. Since everything runs so nice on the MBA. I actually use the MBA as my main machine now with great satisfaction, and that make me rethink of buying a Imac.

Apple didn't just sacrifice all the ports to make the MBA thin. They predicted that the future, newly released laptops will look more and more like MBA where ports won't be needed by consumers anymore.

Also when the iphone catches up to become as powerful as current macbooks, the macbooks at that time will be even more powerful than the current ones.

that's cool with me, i am all for moving forward

when apple incorporated the usb port and apple purists screamed bloody murder because usb was an intel creation, i was happy with it since it worked quite well with a lot of peripherals

when apple went with intel processors, and it really made a positive difference in battery life with intel powered mac laptops, i was quite ok with that

if wireless is the future, then so be it

i think cell phones and laptops will increase their technology far beyond what we can imagine in just a few years from now...only time will tell

when the titanium powerbook came out a few years ago and it was an inch thin, few of us thought that apple would come out with any laptop that thin, or thinner

it's just amazing how apple usually comes out with a lot of stuff first, especially in the realm of industrial design

Let's not forget that the Macbook Air is a brand new type of machine that uses several different pieces of hardware not found in other Apple portables. Apple could announce an incremental refresh at the WWDC with a new processor, northbridge chipset, and larger/faster solid state drive.

We'll find out soon enough, but endless speculation is fun sometimes.

I think the next updated SSD version will be way cheaper.

Also, the move to 45nm cpu it will really help the poor little fan (which works it's little butt off on mine)

Of course all this will make me a bit envious.

I would wait for the next version! SSD prices have already dropped dramatically since the release and the 45nm chips will make their way into the Macbook Air.
