My maxed out MBA has a problem. When I try to start up the apple sound plays but the screen remains black - not a flicker. I think the laptop is fully starting up because I can hear skype load but yet nothing happening with the screen. It was fine yesterday and today nada. I've never had any problems with it before. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do before a trip to the apple store.

A number of us experienced similar issues on wake-to-sleep when the Air first came out. Try restarting it a few times to see if it turns on. If it does, check Software Update to make sure all the firmware updates have been applied. If it still acts up, the Genius Bar is your best bet.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Try turning it off by holding down the power button. Once off, put your right thumb over the apple and alt key and with the same hand, put your little finger on 'p' and another finger on 'r'.
Switch on the machine and keep your fingers on those keys until it restarts. If it's still a blank screen after doing this, get to an apple store or authorized service provider and get it repaired

I would think it's that too but I've already installed the firmware update and it's not a wake-from-sleep occurrence - it's as i the computer is working and the screen isn't. Has anyone had any instances where the MBA burns so hot that it fries out the connection to the screen? I'm grasping at straws and planning a visit to Apple tomorrow but would like to get work done tonight.

Thanks for your response!

Very unlikely I'm afraid!

apple store resolution

the hard drive seems fine bc it works with a monitor but the display is shot - they shipped it off to be dealt with thinking it's not a logic board issue but just a faulty display.
