AnandTech did some benchmarks that show the MBA to be on par with (or quicker than) a Rev A MacBook Pro for many common tasks:

MBA, not bad, though im still considering the macbook cuz i plan to do some pro-ish tasks, i cant have an mbp, i already have a 2.8 imac over here for heavy work, i do video work, i dont mind the GMA in the mb and mba's as ill be doing little stuff in video.

No, it just merely points out how pathetic the PPC was.

The PPC wasn't pathetic at all. I was using a G3 up until 2 months ago. Try using a pentium 2 and saying the same.
Problem with the PPC was that it started off strong, but suffered from a slow update schedule, making it always seem slower than the current intel hardware.

Comparing a Core Duo with a G4 or G5 isnt accurate. Comparing them to a P4 is.

I don't know what you mean by saying "Comparing a Core Duo with a G4 or G5 isnt accurate." It's a comparison. It shows that one is faster than the other. That's what comparisons do.

I believe you're trying to say that the PPC was ahead of intel four years ago, so as to say that the Air is more impressive than the PPC was pathetic? While I disagree, I still don't see how that's relevant to comparing the Air to a G5. I think it's a pretty enlightening comparison, showing where technology is heading. But, I would have thought the Air would be higher up on that list considering reviews I've heard from Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo machines.

Uhh, I wouldn't really say that, just since the PPC is old doesn't mean it is pathetic. It was the best available at the time. If what you say is true, then every single piece of technology in the world today is pathetic, since in 2 years there will be something way better.

No, I'm just saying that while the Core Duo / Xeon was a breakthrough as far as power efficiency, scalability and temps were concerned it was an incremental upgrade on the PC side in terms of performance. On the Mac side, the improvement was nothing short of phenomenal. Take what you will away from that.

I meant that compared to a Core 2 Duo, ofcourse the PPC is going to look bad, its from a different era. I'm not praising the PPC, just saying that people quickly forget that 4 years ago, mac users' trying to get windows users to switch would commonly say that a PPC was twice as fast as an Intel, yet now that apple is using Intel, the PPC was twice as slow, or pathetic?

Not trying to start a flame war.. Just adding an opinion.

I remember when...... It sure is nice to see upgrade cycles and new proc.'s every 3-6 months instead of 1-2 years. They were okay and I never had too many issues with PPCs but going Intel was a very smart business decision. Now Apple can compare straight up and show how their product compares.
