I am considering getting the new macbook air. I have some questions. Based on current models.
1) Which is better/better value? 11 ultimate, 13" base with *few* upgrades?
2) does iLife come with powerpoint?
3) if Not is keynote just as easy to use/learn (This would be my first mac)
4) any must have accessories?
5) is the external superdrive worth the *huge* price? or will any external usb 2.0 dvd drive work? (links please)
6) do you know of any cheaper non-apple adapters that work just as well (like this; I know this website is not a scam btw for anyone who wants to buy something: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-dvi-to-dvi-adapter-23289)
7) any good cases or cool gadgets I should look at
8) random: how to take screenshot on mac?
A lot of these questions have been anwered but any help would be VERY appreciated.

The Ivory Tower (I'm not coming down)
1. Impossible to say without some idea of what you use your machine for.
2. No, Powerpoint is a Microsoft Office application.
3. Depends on how good you are with computers.
4. Subjective.
5. Any external drive will work. Google.
6. No.
7. Subjective.
8. Command Shift 3

thanks

first, thanks for your quick reply.
My usage would be quite light. I would use Microsoft word or pages? powerpoint or keynote? (Maybe I should suck it up and spend the extra 70$ for Microsoft) I would also use some LIGHT apps such as angry birds :p. No final cut express or something like that. I have a fair bit of knowledge, but I am a "switcher"

Uhm. get other 2 people to buy microsoft office with you so you guys can split the money.
One of my friends gave me a legit copy of office since he was the only mac user in his 10 people family.

Dude, a pentium 3 can run angry birds. I run starcraft 2 in my MBA 13.

I think he means office comes with 3 licenses, so If 3 of you buy, you can all legally use it, and it is 1/3 of the cost!

I plan on upgrading my 06' MBP to the new line of Air's (11" ultimate).

As for accessories, id go with an Incase sleeve. You can put in this sleeve then put it in a bag without it being exposed to scratches and such.

Also, depending if you want to throw some cash around, go for an external display. I had my eye on the dell ultrasharp series. i dont know the model number it is 23" and averaged $280 online. for that quality thats pretty damn good. i cant justify spending close to a grand for an apple cinema display.

Anything else as the person said before is subjective.

5) Any external USB drive will do. If you must buy one, I'd suggest a Blu-Ray burner (reads / writes CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays -- see MakeMKV).

I bought mine (Panasonic UJ-240) off rrdn.net for $138 shipped to France (this price may have dropped by now -- even that one was good compared to those in France ). You can ask for advice or a quote via e-mail, they're surprisingly responsive and understanding.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the help. I do like incase now that you mention it. I would love a leather folio to put it in. I agree with you, for 999 you can get the cinema display, or for 1199 you get an imac :) does that mean it only cost apple 200$ to make the computer :D :D ahahaha I dont think i really need an external monitor as I do have a desktop at home, also i am a little confused on why you would use the keyboard/mouse but use another monitor, unless you use another keyboard and mouse which i can really afford. I really like the stickers you can get too :) thanks again.

Thanks for your advice,
The point for me not getting the external superdrive was the cost, and this is about double then the superdrive in Canada. I do realize that it is blu-ray, but my tv is an old tube tv, so I have no use for blu-ray. I asume that you are French so,
Merci

Super drive is so useless. I have installed everything through internet or usb.

Something noteworthy :)
http://www.geek.com/articles/apple/macbook-awesome-iron-man-sticker-2010024/

as of Microsoft office, Im saying to buy the family pack with 2 other people who will use it. so $95/3 would be $30 bucks for microsoft office.

How do you install through usb?

The BookBook for Macbook air is pretty awesome. A little heavy but gives you both drop and theft protection.

H5106

http://store.apple.com/us/product/H5106ZM/A

It's available for the 13 inch air and macbook pros as well as the 11 inch.
