MacBook Air v 2,1 (rev B) 1.86 CPU, 128 GB SSD, REFURBISHED $1449!!!

For ANYONE who only has $1500 to spend on a MacBook Air... DO NOT BUY THE NEW MBA WITH HDD BUT BUY THE REFURBISHED REV B HIGH END WITH SSD FOR $1449!!!

It's an amazing price cut. Amazing that new a few days ago would cost $1000 more than today!

Apple could very well be repackaging MBAs that were in new boxes for $2499 two days ago, and selling them for $1050 LESS TODAY! I suspect lots of refurbished rev B MBAs with 1.86 GHz and SSD with one or two battery cycles, and manufactured a few weeks ago! Maybe those got the newer beautiful displays?

The only question is the display now. What happens with the new 2,2 MBA displays??? Will they be better? Will they have lines?

For $350 more, is the v 2,2 2.13 GHz MBA with SSD worth it for the average buyer???

BTW, been calling and NO new Mac notebooks in stores yet!

I just saw that as well, I was about to make the jump for the new $1799, the price seems great compared to the $2499 before. But for the refurb is $350 less and the only difference I see is the lack of ethernet adapter (now bundled) and a tiny drop from 2.13GHz to 1.86GHz.

That really the only difference between these two? If so, it's a great time to get a refurb!

I have to admit that I'm a little dazed by all of the announcements and I'm still not sure what I want to get. This little gem almost slipped by, but I happened to noticed it in the refurb store since I've been keeping an eye on it for a while.

After owning an Air previously I know what the attraction is. The 13" MBP looks like a sweet deal, but it's really hard for me to pass up getting this refurb...really hard.

Would you guys recommend this over an EDU-priced 2.13 GHz with the free iPod Touch offer? Assuming one could sell the iPod for $200, that comes out to an extra $100 for the new version. The question is whether there is something to be gained from going with a refurbished, more-thoroughly inspected Rev B model.

Saw this, We have one, and now we might buy another. Although maybe not until the end of the year. I bet I can get a 2.13 refurbished then for the same price in Nov/Dec once all the people start returning them for "lines". I still have never seen this issue.

why are you referring to the early 2009 Rev B as the MBA 2.1 instead of 2.0 ?

the $1099 refurb is the 1.8 w/ an 80GB hdd, instead of the 1.6. i think the $100 difference has always been there.

I picked up a Rev B Refurb and boy...

I had a Rev A refurb last year and it was an okay computer but I had problems playing videos and high temps and such. I never got coolbook, but I did reapply the thermal paste and got some positive change in doing that. To be honest, I had one of the better Rev As and I have to say that the Rev B isn't even the same thing.

As per Mac claims, it "just works." I don't have to hassle with anything third party to get my Air to work very nicely. When I had my Rev A I just didn't understand how much better the Rev B is. I can watch HQ Hulu videos with no stuttering, even full screen is great. And the program launch times are insane.

Now, I haven't used a new Air yet but I hear they are great, aside from the familiar lines that plagued the Bs. I debated on the new Air, but decided I didn't need to spend the little bit more and that the Rev B refurb would be fine for me. I have no regrets...which is weird for me.


$1449 for the SSD Rev B is terrific if you ask me.

That sounds like a superb deal, and is one that would seriously tempt me when I'm next back in western Europe. I have been looking at, longing for, and drooling over the thought of a Rev B SSD MBA. Well spotted and thanks for posting and drawing our attention to it.

Well I almost thought about buying this refurb 1.86 one but with taxes it came out to 1550

I bought the 2.1 winstead for 1738. Less than 200 more for a brand new one and a bit faster cpu. not a bad deal.

I think the lines issue is becoming quite an issue for Apple. I spent almost an hour on the phone today about returning my refurb B with lines. I talked to five people and they absolutely will not wave the restocking fee. It's really too bad because I love the Air and it sucks that we have to put up with defects like this.

I've never had any problem returning a product to Apple until now, so I'm guessing they've taken a fair return hit over this line issue. Each person I talked to had info that the lines are within spec. They offered to set up an appointment at the Apple store, but it's a three hour drive each way, so I don't think that's worth going to have a genius tell me the same thing...of course, I have to get my iPhone looked at, too.

Edit: I forgot to mention another first: my order listed my Air as "ineligible for return" even though I used a credit card to purchase it, just like everything else I've ever gotten. Something isn't right with this. I guess I could dispute the charge with my credit card. It could be worse, I suppose.

I cannot believe you could even ask this. In quoting me before your question, it said $1000 lower price in just a few days. $1449 vs new price of $2499 is a huge difference. Especially with Apple, as we normally see $150 to $300 discount for refurbished, not $1050!!!

Apple has really punished MBA buyers AGAIN! First it was the disasterous original which the discounts had to be given to have price equal expectations. Now the discount because of low demand for an apparently unsellable MBA rev B at $2499 luxury pricing.

At $1449, I believe a rev B MBA WITHOUT LINES is the best buy/value for any Mac right now! But I am definitely an MBA fan. I see it as the perfect Mac for the average business "pro" and it's really rather capable for the mobile lifestyle remote connectivity with Time Capsule and Mobile Me!

So for those who don't think $1050 is a big discount, nevermind.

That price drop was due to total failure of the original MBA's components overheating. Very little of that was due to SSD price drops. The new MBA represents a failure to sell for part of the price drop and SSD for about $300 of price drop. Assuming I am correct that the new high end MBA hasn't been introduced yet, the prices will be closer to the high end rev B at $2499. A 256 GB SSD would probably cost same now as 128 cost when initially introduced in rev B. I really believe the high end is waiting on the drive and will resume a similar high end pricing around $2499 for luxury buyers. But that is all assuming the MBA sales pickup substantially with the massive cuts!

I ordered another MBA for my company and changed the order from the 2.1 to the 1.8/128ssd to take advantage of the price drop but also due to concerns the 2.1 feels quite a bit warmer on the lap than the 1.8ghz ....

I don't believe it's the "plague of lines" that's caused Apple to do anything. It's been confirmed here numerous times already that in reality 95% of buyers with never notice lines, and for the 5% that do a small percentage of those will call Apple on it.

So, for a company producing about 5,000 MBA's in China a day things are good, and since the line issue isn't an issue for more than 9 out of 10 buyers it's no surprise to me that Apple Staff'ers haven't heard about it....
