Macbook air VS ipad+ macbook, which would U buy?

The cheapest macbook air is 1499 bucks, while the cheapest ipad plus macbook is merely 1498 bucks, even 1 buck cheaper!!!

So which would you prefer?

It seems as if ipad+macbook could do whatever the macbook air could manage, except for its stunning appearance!

I'm going with option C: iMac + iPad :)

Tried MBA, didn't care for it.

With the 13" MBP I recently sold, 99% of my usage was email, web, Slingbox for watching TV :) and accessing my corp network. iPad will do anything I need to do on a portable/laptop style device. My iPhone comes in handy at times but the small screen always left me wanting for something larger. iPad fits that need perfectly.

To be fair to your original question, if those were my options... MB + iPad would be my choice.
 
Although the MBA is light, it's still a laptop, not a tablet. Why would having a MBA reduce the need for an iPad? I have a MBA now but I'll still be buying an iPad.

But if I had to choose between your options: I would keep my MBA. MBA is the best mac ever made and there's no way I can go back to a MB or MB Pro.
 
Personally my option would be iPad and MacBook....as that's what I'll be doing!

I reckon the iPad could steal a fair amount of sales from the MacBook Air actually. Clearly they are very different as stated above, with the MBA obviously running OSX. But the majority of people who buy a MBA (and I could be very very wrong about this of course) buy one as they want a very light portable computer for (considering the specs) web browsing, email, light document editing and media (iTunes and videos)....which is exactly what the iPad does but in a much slicker format.

But who knows really until its launched!

The specs for a MBA are comparable to a MB and just as capable. I run Final Cut Pro on it and edit 720p movies from my Flip. You make it sound like a netbook.
 
Oh, I'm definitely not saying its not capable of doing more power intensive tasks, it's just that ONE of the primary markets for it is basically a very stylish light notebook that generally people will only be using for more basic tasks....which the iPad can now do but in a more streamlined way.
 
Original question: the MacBook plus the iPad.

Off topic: I've got a MacBook Air and I still want an iPad. Sure there's some overlap, but that's to be expected. I bought the Air in the first place since it was light and portable, which was a fair tradeoff for the loss of DVD drive, smaller hard drive, less RAM, etc. The iPad takes this further still. The Air, however still has some advantages (it is a full Mac, after all). Plus, if you want a light setup, the Air plus the iPad weigh less than the MacBook by itself.

The thing is the MBA is a real computer. The ipad is not a real computer as it requires connecting to a computer. I don't see them as identical in any way.
 
Before the iPad announcement This is what I was going to do.....
Replace my iPhone 3G with the new iPhone expected in June
Buy a MacBook or MacBook Pro to replace my Windows 7 laptop

This is my new plan....
Replace my iPhone 3G with the new iPhone expected in June
Buy the iPad before the end of the year.
By March 2011, buy an iMac. My laptop now is on my desk at home almost 80% of the time so the iMac will become the home base, plus it would be nice to have a large screen again.
By March 2012, replace the Windows laptop with a MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. I feel the iPad would take care of anything that the laptop would do based on how I use my laptop away from my desk now. By the time the Windows laptop would need to be replaced, I'll just keep it all in the Apple family and go with one of the MacBook.
 
your better off getting an entry level MBP and saving yourself the $300 bucks.
