Ok, so I’m looking to upgrade my 12 inch MacBook. It’s a fine performer, but lately I noticed its a little slow, and the screen is a bit too small for me. Right now I’m debating between two computers: the new 2018 MacBook Air with 256gb ssd (brand new) and the 2018 13 inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, also with 256 gb (from apple refurbished).

Buying the MacBook Pro from the refurbished store gets me the same amount of storage as the MacBook Air for about the same price.

My question is, what do you think is better?

As far as I can tell the only advantages of the MacBook Air, are that it is slightly lighter and has a better battery life.

I’m leaning towards the MacBook Pro as in every other speck it is better: processor, speed, better screen, more thunderbolt ports.

I think the refurbished 2018 MacBook Pro starts at $1,529.00, and the 2018 MacBook Air with 256 GB starts at $1,399, so about $130 difference.
I would probably still choose the Pro.

Between the two, there's also the new 2018 13 inch MacBook Pro with 256 GB but without Touch Bar at $1,499.

as a macbook air user since 2010 i would go with the pro, because that macbook is more sturdy and better processing speeds. but get something that has the option to expand, like RAM and a better HD down the road if you are not getting a brand spanking new one. Battery life should be the same on both models tho. as for liilte ol me, I'm in the same buying boat, my MBA wont type "q to o" anymore and the pentalobe screws are falling out. i hope this helps

i might get one of these:
Refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Retina display$1099
or a dell

Believe the only new MBPs in June of this year were the Touchbar models. The refurb store has the month and year of the original release for each offering.
[doublepost=1542210683][/doublepost]I would choose the MBP over the MBA for the slightly faster processor and more importantly for the two additional TB3 ports

Best of luck

Another vote for the Pro. As you note, the only real advantage of the Air is longer battery life, but you can achieve that by throttling the Pro when you want longer batter life with something like Volta. So you might as well get the flexibility.

After a lot of consideration --- including side-by-side comparisons of the displays over 2 days --- I decided to go with the Macbook Pro 13" with TB. I found my exact config in a 2018 MBP with TB (i5/16GB/512GB) on the Apple refurb site for $1869. Given that the MBA same config was $1799, this was a no-brainer for the $70 difference: faster CPU, brighter screen, etc.
