I would like to keep my MB on overnight so that I can download some stuff but hen I close it it goes to sleep. I have changed the power management settings but this doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know how I can keep my downloads going while having my MB closed?

you need the following : external monitor, USB or bluetooth mouse/keyboard.

plug monitor and ext mouse/keyboard in, close lid, wait til it's sleep, don't open the lid, move the mouse. your macbook should wake now

that, OR get the a program like insomniac

you can also use the remote that came with your macbook to wake it, as long as you allow it to in the sys prefs

macbook like the ibook disapates most of its heat through the keyboard and right into the lcd when it is closed and still operating....mbp and powerbook are different though. simply go into system preferences and have your display go to sleep after a certain amount of time

Use an external monitor and set it for mirror. Then just set it not to turn off. You should then be able to close the lid and still have the monitor running. Providing you have set the energy saving correctly it should happily carry on going when the lid is close.
