All I need to know is if this update has fixed the moo and whine and made your macbook run cooler? The 10.4.7 update thread is just too full of "rebooting now" junk.

Mine now only moos when it is plugged in to the power cord. It used to moo running off the battery sometimes, but it hasn't since I updated earlier.

Cut n' paste from my post on the 10.4.7 thread:

This is kind of interesting. I'd started converting a Divx movie to iPod format on my white 2GHz MacBook when I got the update notification. I finished the conversion, then installed the update (no problems BTW). I then did another export (I'm converting a season's worth of TV episodes).

Before the update, the fans didn't spin up much (if at all) but it would moo (which it would normally do under moderate load). After the update, the fans audibly came on and no moo. So it would appear that Apple's done some tinkering with the MacBook fan settings.

I didn't check the temp pre-update, but it's running at about 70C right now with Quicktime putting a 140% load on the CPU. I'd be surprised if that's significantly different from what it was doing pre-update, but then again it might feel a bit cooler. Who knows, probably placebo effect.

Now, I don't want this to get interpreted as APPLE FIXED THE MOO, because this is only one situation, and it might well moo under different circumstances. But it's definitely behaving different(ly).

For my MacBook Pro it definitely did not fix the whine. I can't really say much about the moo, because I did not hear it very often anyhow.

No fix on the moo for me. Although it seems harder to replicate now, it still will reproduce occasionally. I thought this was a firmware issue not a software one?

Well, I didn't have a moo in the first place, but I was noticing high temperatures. Now, my idle temps are about 5-10C lower than before, and feels cooler as well. Great job, Apple!

A lot of people have said the update makes the whine worse, so I'm scared to install it.

Eh, keeping the keyboard update from like back when the MBP came out will allow both MagicNoiseKiller and the forcequit-Photobooth thing to work. ;)

See this thread. :)

Yeah. My MacBook had slight "mooing", but it seems like the fan either stays on or off, not on and off every 10 seconds.

That's all I ask... of course the fan is going to have to be on sometimes, but it's the cycling every few seconds that kills me!

Wonder (if 10.4.7. does actually do something for the MB moos) why Apple didn't release it in a separate SMC update like they did for the other Intel Macs?

As for stuff running cooler, I wonder if the processor steps down even lower when not being utilized?

One very strange thing I've noticed is that when I'm charging my battery on my MBP it doesn't seem to know when it's full! It gets to 100% charge and then just keeps saying "Calculating...until full" and the light on the charger never changes from amber to green.

This definitely didn't happen pre 10.4.7! I just hope that this isn't damaging my battery in any way.

I've had that happen a lot on my MB on 10.4.6, especially when waking it up.

A few minutes later, it'll show "Full" and turn green.

Never had this happen before and it refuses to budge over to green. Kept it plugged in for hours (as I do - mainly run off mains) and I noticed it was amber way after it should have charged. I let it run on battery down to the red and charged it up again - same thing. Haven't seen the green light since installing 10.4.7 last night.

My Macbook still moos, gets extremely hot and whines on 10.4.7. No change at all, as the feature list already indicated. I believe some of the reports above are just wishful thinking :D

I really haven't noticed any major changes since the 10.4.7 update. Temps are about the same and I never really noticed a mooing on my machine from the start. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. No real issues with my MacBook.
