MacBook and Backlight warming up....

Does everyone else's macbook when using the display after having it off for a while seem to take a while for everything to "come on?" For instance after having my book off for an hour or so then turning it on will show dark areas near the center of my macbook. They won't go away until about 5 minutes of the LCD coming on. If it's normal, hey no worries. I could be noticing it more because of the lack of internet at home and school starting (meaning lots of word processing going on with huge white backgrounds on the screen).

Like I said, it's fine after the backlight warms up - but it seems to warm up slower than my old Powerbook 1Ghz.

This has not been my experience with the three macbooks I've used. You may have a defective display. I would consider making an appointment at the genious bar and have them take a look at it. I may need to be repaired.

I found a thread on Apple Discussions and they seem to have the same issue.

It's not really super bothering and if it gets worse I still have 9 months or so of warranty left.

Just wanted to see if anyone else noticed it.

I've seen this happen with pretty much every active-matrix LCD I've ever used. I'd imagine it's similar to what happens when you turn a fluorescent light on in 50 degree weather -- it takes a good minute or two for the bulb to reach full brightness. My Macbook does this too, and perhaps it's more noticeable just because the screen is so bright and clear.

yeah, plus the weather has dropped drastically in the past week (compared to the 100s we were seeing in the prior weeks). Could be why I'm noticing it.

hey, could you update your situation please?
I might have same problem as you described, when I turn on machine after >1 hour of rest (normally a shutdown), I can see the dark region around the left bottom 20% of the screen, it disappears right after I log in to my account (Its NOT covered by wallpaper, IT disappears, I tried to change wallpaper to solid white color, the dark area is NOT there once machine started).

I think every LCD I ever owned has some sort of warm up period. Usually very short, but time varies. Sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes two minutes.

yeah, my concern is the slow warm up might indicate the aging of the light bubble inside. Since this problem was not there when I first got the machine, it only caught my eyes fairly recently.
I might be wrong tho, at least for now, it works fine. 7on, let me know if you have any update about this in the future. thanks, we are in the same boat.
