Hi, i am a college student who is looking to buy either a new Macbook or a macbook pro. As much as i love the macbook pro stories on here plus the fact that it is less durable than the macbook have led me to wanting to buy a macbook rather than a pro. I was just wondering, is it possible to run Final cut express HD smoothly on a 2GB macbook? or is it better to get the M.B.P. with the dedicated graphics and larger RAM. I just dont know if the benefits of the extra RAM, bigger screen and dedicated memory outweigh that of an irregularly colored backlit screen which is tinted yellow in some places and a computer that is very delicate and cannot be produced from a bag without being very careful etc.

Any feedback on this would be welcomed

Thanks

It will run fine. Video editing doesn't use the video card at all.

FCE HD runs great on my piece of **** iBook, it will fly on a new macbook.

I used Final Cut Express on my old MacBook Core Duo (it was first generation) and it ran fine. In fact, it ran great. Although, I did end up getting a Pro for the sake of being able to use Final Cu Studio 2. But FCE will work just fine.

how was motion, after effects on the macbook? i would imagine it wasn't that great?
The link I posted has benchmarks for Motion - I think Barefeats also has some. Also check the video editing forum here as some users have posted it.

Generally speaking, user feedback says that it doesn't run fast (unsurprisingly) but it is usable. Color though appears to be far more problematical.
