ok here it goes. i have a black mb w/ 2gb ram and i am on #2 due to the "whine" coming from the left corner of the machine. i dont know about anyone else but i called apple and they acted like i was crazy. i asked them if they read the forums and again, they acted like i was crazy. well, i have had it. this is a week 27 machine and as new as they come. just like previous posts when unplugged the "whine" goes away and also when running photo booth. my dilema is this, should i switch to a macbook pro? have they finally fixed the "mooing" and "whining" on those? from what i am reading those issues are gone on the macbook pro side. advice please??

would you like cheese with your whine?

Depends. Can the whine on your computer be eliminated by following these steps:

https://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-197138.html

If so, then your problem is solved. If not, then it's your decision. My only question is, did you buy the computer with full RAM. If not, you can just transfer your bought RAM into the MBP. :)

I rather like the MBP over the MB. There's a lot more screen real estate.

My 2GHz MacBook Pro is whine free (thankfully). If you are tired of using a MacBook then definitely consider going with a MacBook Pro- there are plenty of reasons to go Pro. :)

So the 2 of us just lied?

not saying that at all. its just sad that apple has not fixed the issue in "all the computers" regardless of when they were manufactured. on another topic i am reading a lot about a whole new motherboard. what is the story with that? should i just wait all together?

There are some that believe that the whine is related to the power adapter. A simple change in power adapter makes the whine go away according to these people. It's worth a try. :)

Funny thing... 2 MBP (17") at my house and not once have I heard the dreaded whine or moo! So, to the OP: I don't know if they've fixed it, I've never heard it before. Switch to MBP! They are so much fun! Of course, all Apples are fun but what the heck:p ... at least it helps Apple's sales and you never know what they'll do...

I believe Yonah is in the mbp at the moment.... and supposedly merom is being officially released in August. I'm in the same boat as you are... I'm going to be buying a mbp soon but am unsure if i should try to wait or just jump in. There are also others who believe that merom mbps will come out but it might be difficult to get them asap (similar to the mpb situation where there was a wait between the actual shipping and announcement) ... i need mine for school in september :p

The current CPU in the McBook Pro is the Core Duo aka Yonah, it's a 32 bit dual core CPU. The Merom is the code name for the mobile version of the Core 2 Duo a 64 bit dual core CPU. As for how quickly Apple change processors no one can really tell. I'd assume they would try to do it quickly to put a real gap between the MacBook and MacBook Pro, but at the moment I'm sure they are more interested in getting the pro desktop range finally moved to Intel. Everyone is expecting the Mac Pro to be launched at WWDC in August, who knows you may see Apple release an upgraded MBP at the same time. Once they are announced though who knows how long until they finally ship, this is Apple after all. :-/

i have a week 14 MBP and i do have the whine/heat problems. it is a 2Ghz with 256VRAM. it does not bother me very much, so i think i'll send it in when somethin else goes wrong with it. my whine is solved with the mirror widget approach,

How would you switch? Would you just return it to apple and say give me a macbook pro and i will pay the difference?

exactly. i just returned the blackbook to compusa literally an hour ago and i am going to research more and wait for all the wonderful people on here to give me advice. i have another question for everyone. all compusa has in stock is week 22 mbp, is that new enough that the whine/moo/heat issues would be fixed?

Yesterday, while bringing my MacBook Pro in for logic board exchange, I listened to some MBPs in the Apple Center and they all whined. The guy told me he'll exchange the board, but it won't help. According to him all MBPs whine and there is no fix yet. So we'll see ...

I checked all the MBPs at the apple store and compusa; and yes, they all had some whinning "buzzzing" sound coming from the left hand side of the keyboard

My macbook pro was built to order and arrived 2 weeks ago. I have yet to hear the processor whine, but once in a while the mag safe connector makes a funny noise(not very loudly). The only complaint I have is the machine gets absurdly hot when running anything processor intensive(hotter than my powerbook g4 1.67 ghz).
