I was wondering, does the MBP have a different set of hardware to handle the wireless, as compared to the regular macbook? From what i have noticed, the regular macbooks have a much better range than the MBP's. Does anyone know why this is?

I believe it's down to the fact the MacBook Pros are encased in metal whereas the MacBooks are encased in plastic. The iBooks and PowerBooks had the same respective issue. The metal interferes with the wireless signal/reception.

Dang, that sucks. I have a MBP and its kinda sad to see people around me get online with their macbooks, while i stand there with a laptop that cost double.

Yea the weaker reception along with the decreased battery life was enough to push me to get a regular macbook instead of replacing my PB G4 with a MBP. But the MBP looks amazing so you do get something for your money!

I don't really notice a difference between my iBook reception and my MacBook Pro reception. In school I can get reception at all the places I need to, at home I get the same reception. That probably won't help you much though...

However, I _do_ see a big difference between my iBook and MacBook reception. At home, my iBook sees 3-5 access points, while my MacBook sees 13! This has been a fantastic boon for me when I'm at a hotel, since I don't have to go the lobby to access the network, but often can do it from the room directly.
