what would be the best way to tranfer pictures from my camera to my macbook i got a nikon d80 and whenever i try to tranfer it by usd cable it need the nikon software on pc , im wondering how would it be on mac? plus is there any sd card reader that i can just plug it in the usd without a cable?

firstly is USB cable.
On Mac you do not need any drivers as Iphoto would recognize almost all models of camera and import the images to your MaC.
Mac is a true plug and play device unlike Win, no driver required.
This would be easier than removing the memory card.
