Who really appreciates their MacBook? What has it done for you lately? It has been my main setup since I sold my 20" iMac G5 and it is great. Only 13" and it is doing everything I need it to do. Running quick, quiet, and cool the whole time it is a fully functional, do it all multi-purpose machine.

Just a token of gratitude amongst all the negative posts and complaints. Good job, MacBook. Lets got to the deli and get a sandwich and coffee. ;)

Nice idea!

Mine has been perfect. No mooing, not too hot, no bending, staining, warping, dead pixels, nowt!

I must admit though I hardly use it as my main Mac is a PM G5. My MacBook is used to surf when my bro is on the G5 or when Im watching TV. Expensive surfboard but hey its a MB. :D

Glad to hear you like it. Mine does it all right now. And it can go anywhere I go. Couch, bedroom, balcony, front steps, etc. ;)

This does make a change from all the moaning.

My MacBook does get hot, but so what.

Its main use to date has been to go on holiday with me as my main backup for my holiday photography (I take a lot of photos - probably too many, but I'd rather have too many than too few). I've been using aperture on it and doing my sorting/rating while travelling which works fine (haven't tried editting on it).

It's also wow'ed my travel companions with slideshows of my photos, and the bit they have enjoyed the most is slideshows of their pictures in the evening.

The screen is fantastic for slideshows being so bright it even works fine on a coach trip during the day.

The MacBook has also turned out to be pretty tough as well (no real surprise to me after seeing what my poor iBook survived), surviving a very dusty environment in Iceland (volcanic dust is very abrasive so there are a few scratches now - boohoo :( ) and a couple of falls to the floor so far.

It's also great to open it if there are any PC laptops around - even the nice ones are just plain Janes in comparisin.

Of course, I couldnt survive without AirPort Extreme. :D

Mine's proving durable, some of the keys are going yellow which i'm not that happy about, especially as I can't get them clean, but overall the performance is great and it's proving to be a rock solid performer. Great machine for my switch over to mac. And after getting used to the keyboard I like it, although I do sometimes get a bit frustrated over the key layout and lack of some keys. :D

I have been without my iMac for over a week now. I have learned this small keyboard and have been using it like I've never used anything else. I just realized it tonight. This MacBook has done everything that I do, and has performed without a hitch. It's supposed to be a portable that is used when a desktop isn't available, yet it has filled the iMac's shoes wonderfully.

My first mac, went with the black upper end one, and I have to say, I am impressed.

First month landmark baby! And so far no problems (touch wood)

What keys are missing?

MacBook black, it's a warranty replacement for an iBook G4 that failed too many times.

Rocks my world, but still figuring out XP Pro networking on it, and hoping that Adobe doesn't wait a decade to go UB.

sweet macbook

I just switched to mac...and i couldn't be happier. i just got a 2gh 2gb macbook. I love this little white gem. It does everything and i could want and i haven't had any problems in the least...no mooing, overheating, or random shut downs. I love all the little thought out features, and the ease with which i can do what i want. Not to mention the how easy it was to setup! Say goodbye to hour-long PC setups! Not only have i been impressed, but i think the others in my family have seen it and are seriously thinking about switching over to macs...i guess this is mac praising but it all started with my mac book...one of my best buys ever.

Absolutely adore my Macbook!

I've been using Windows my entire life. I started working on Macs in my newspaper class back in tenth grade. Since I was going to be the editor-in-chief of the school paper this year (Senior year, I'm 17), I figured it was time that I switch. I began debating between the 17" or 20" iMacs, the MB, or the MBP.

I ended up getting the White 2Ghz Macbook. I'm absolutely in love with it. It's my main computer. I can take it with me anywhere. I take it to school, the bookstore, and to friends' houses. When it's at my house, I have it hooked up to an external kb/mouse.

I just put a gig stick of RAM in it, bumping it up to 1.25GB. I need to get an external monitor, HDD, and some speakers. However, for the things I need, it works flawlessly. It boots quick, and runs Safari perfectly. It runs Word fine, and easily runs some light Photoshop and InDesign.

I love the interface, and absolutely adore dashboard. Everything about a Mac just works. At no point have I got angry at the computer. When I want to do something, I can. I don't have to run virus crap, check for updates, blah, blah, blah.

And OMG, it's so freakin fast. It seems like nearly everything is instant. Boom!

No moo, no whine, no creaks, no staing. I've had my MB since July, and will never go back to Windows. This is what a computing experience should be.

I hope to get a MacPro before heading off to college...

My white MB 2Ghz 2GB ram is a replacement for my 12" Powerbook.

I use it for web designing, flash animation, digital art. I have a 17" high resolution external monitor I plug it into and it runs fantastic.

Silly thing is what I love most about it is that I don't worry about denting it the way I did with my previous Powerbook.

a definite delete button, the old printscreen that i'm so used to (pressing a combination of keys gets tiresome), also I can't find a button with the hash sign on it

you can change the keyboard shortcuts. On the G5PM at work I have print screen (or something) assigned to F13. Look in the Keyboard prefs in the last tab. You might need to configure it to Opt+F8 or something on the F13'less MB.

#? On US layouts it's Shift-3... UK it might be option+3. Dunno others.

I like my Macbook... when it works. Hopefully I'll have no other problems with it. knock on wood

Love it!

I am working on my first Macbook and the quality difference between the Windows world and Apple is noticeable. Of course you get what you pay for, but I love using the Macbook. My wife does too and has claimed it for herself. I'm gunning for a Macbook Pro in the very near future but the Macbook is sweet.

I'm saving for a Macbook right now (see below)

By quitting smoking, I'm saving 200 dollars a month. So I figure I'll be good to go by April ish...depending on if I sell some stuff to get more cash..

Also, by the time I can afford it, there should be a cheaper, faster version by then.

Couple questions:

-Are games on the Macbook pretty much a no go? Like Civ IV?

-Do you guys think it will get updated more than once between now and Mid Spring?

cheers. :)

I got my week 40 MacBook 3 days ago and have had absolutely no problems with it, no crashing, no faults, and it doesnt get hot at all, barely even warm while using light apps. i love it :D

I would be very, very, very surprised if there was another revision that soon, it would only be 4-5months after C2D (on the assumptio Apple upgrade by the fall.)

uh About gaming...

Here is what i've tested on my new MacBook 1.83 ghz 1 Gb ram 60 Gb Hard Disk:

Call of duty 2 (Native MacOsx Demo Universal)
-> Runs Very well, even on high settings and high windows mode. Extra high is not a question :) But i think High settings will do for most people!

Quake 4 (Native MacOsx Demo Universal)
-> Runs like ****, even in lowest settings lowest window mode, it's just not good... i think id software uses a abnormally high graphic program. Even on low settings it looked like half life 2 on high  So, don't download that 5xx Mb for the demo that doesn't work if you own a MacBook or a Mac Mini

Legion Arena (Native MacOsx Demo Universal)
-> Runs lovely, High Settings, High Window, Runs very nice and is a very nice game :) i'll be buying this i think :)

Tremelous (Native MacOsx Universal Full Game, since it's free)
-> Runs at 90 fps On High settings, is a free game and looks like doom3...
The basic idea is that you have 2 sides, The alien side and the human site.
(Same as ET with Axis and Allies) And you have to kill each other :) Being a human though is very hard :) I recommend this game for people who want to play a very nice free game online!

Minions of Mirth (Native MacOsx ROSETTA Full game)
-> Does not run very nice, it lags ! it's almost inplayable on ROSETTA. For those interested, they have announced the universal binary for the game, so expect to see it some day :) If that comes out, you can be certain to have a nice playable game!

Enemy Territory (Native MacOsx ROSETTA Full game)
-> Runs like crap, you can walk nice around but when it comes to action, it's totally not playable! At least on the belgian servers :) which has lag sometimes though so i will test this again on any server people give me it this topic, that they know don't have lag all the time.

Update to the gaming review:

Minions of Mirth (Native MacOsx Universal Full game)
-> Runs like heaven.. Everybody should try this game if they want to see what MacBook is capable of in OsX.. Anyway, i don't know the fps but it runs as a flying bird. U can change it to window mode if you want to for extra performance. Playing on high for those who like to know. (I play it in an unsupported 800*600 window mode for yet extra performance. Contact me if you want to know how to play in 800*600)

Let me know if you have a demo that needs to be tested. I'll be here for you!

Update:

Minions of Mirth (Native Windows Bootcamp)
-> Runs even better then the universal native osx game. You can put everything on high, highest window mode and still play at very good fps. Definitly something bootcamp-users must try out!

Age of Empires III (Native Windows Bootcamp Demo)
-> Runs great, as long as you put shader detail low (because otherwise there are some graphic issues), you can put everything else on high. it's recommend to put everything on medium and have water reflections off in a world with much water stuff. Also i recommend to not set bloom, as i see no difference and it gives more performance. Great game, definitly try it out

Age of Empires III - The WarChiefs (Native Windows Bootcamp Demo)
-> Same as Above, Runs great as long as you keep my recommend settings.

Enemy Territory (Native Windows Bootcamp Full)
-> Runs lovely, everything high! Highest window mode,... It's a great game. But i do wonder where the arena 51 servers are... can't seem to find them :) Skynet servers rule though Happy gaming!!!

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point (Native Windows Bootcamp Demo)
-> Runs Good - Great, it autodetects high, but i recommend to set it medium.
Keep the window mode at 800*600 and you will be Great! Very nice demo.

Warcraft III - Reign of Chaos (Native OsX Rosetta! Full)
-> Runs very good, although you play it under the rosetta engine, it really gives it worth a play. It runs great at high settings! So if you're a little short on hard disk space, and you would really like this game without having to go under bootcamp, install it under osx and you'll see how great the rosetta engine handles this one.

Warcraft III - Reign of Chaos (Native Windows Bootcamp Demo)
-> Still downloading... I'll post my results when it's done

CONVINCED??????

TO whoever asked about Civ 4.

With mine (with 2GB RAM) it plays ok, about as well as on my iMac G5, it is a bit chuggy but still should be playable.
