I hit that once too, encoding to h.264. It would get around 75 just watching flash vids on YouTube. My fans were a howlin'. My MBP wouldn't even break a sweat over those tasks, but the MB really gets a work out.

No melt down though, so I'm o.k. with it.
 
My fans kick in big time just looking at youtube videos. Which never happened on my old G5, with a worse video card. Thought it was strange to see the macbook heat up like that but I guess it's common then ;)
 
Holy crap ( i wanted to say the) f-word!

The highest mines has ever gone was 70 degrees and i shut my computer down after that. It never went that high again and I run youtube vids through wi-fi! Seriously get a fan for your computer!
 
I've had mine reading at like 257°F once. I'll have to find the screenshot and post it. :p

EDIT: Had to boot into OS X to find this, but here it is! Oh, and it was 259, not 257
