Macbook battery problems?

Hey everyone,

I've got a core duo macbook, and have been having a few problems with it lately. It's 8 months old, with 102 load cycles, and only 57% capacity. I find that extremely low to begin, but in the past few days it's been acting strangely. When it completes a charge, it flickers between 99 and 100%, the light switches between green and amber constantly, and the percentage switches between "calculating" and "charged." Also, after it finishes charging, a few times I have removed the magsafe and the battery goes to around half full with around 40 minutes of charge left.

Anyone have any explanation for this behaviour?

Have you installed the Battery Update? (The one available trough Software Update)

It never hurts to calibrate the battery, but your battery seems to have a bigger problem that can't be solved with just calibrating.

Apple should replace it. My battery has 58 cycles and is still in 95%.

I am not sure if you have AppleCare, but a quick call to Apple should get that battery replaced. My Girlfriend's MacBook exhibited similar behavior a few weeks ago and she had a new battery in a matter of days from Apple. If no Applecare, you probably can go to a Genius Bar and have it taken care of.

I don't have Applecare but I am within the one year warranty. Should I have any trouble? There's not a Genius Bar anywhere near my home.

Are there any Authorized Resellers near?

It doesn't matters if you don't have AppleCare if you are still within the one-year warranty.

call there 1-800 number and they WILL send you a replacement battery. got mine today. called yesterday.

They will deliver that replacement battery to you? I've got a faulty batt, as per diagnosed by the hotline officer. And I've always thought that I'll hav to go down to one of the service centre to get it replaced. The nearest one is like an hour's drive away from my place, so I've been living with the faulty batt for over 2 weeks already...

I'm from out of town but will be in San Francisco next week. Do they deliver to hotels?

They'll UPS it to your address, you then use the same box to send back the defective battery
