My MacBook recently started having battery problems (early October--I didn't get AppleCare, which I regret now, so my coverage ran out in mid September)--the big black X on the battery, not charging, etc--so I went to my local Apple Store to have it looked at, and they swapped my battery out and had me take it home and see what happened from there. It still didn't work, so I brought it back, and they decided to take a look at the connector and see if putting a new one in would help.
They installed a new battery connector/sleep switch, and came out saying that all the new part was doing was putting the laptop to sleep over and over again, and that perhaps the part was defective. They put in an order for another one, and I took my laptop home, tethered to the AC cord. After a week of not hearing a thing from the store, I decided that I would order the part myself, along with the Magsafe connector (that was the next thing the Genius said he'd try swapping), and replace them myself since I have some experience in computer repair (desktop, not laptop, though). I put it off until I had a weekend when I didn't have any reports for school due or anything that would require my laptop, which happened to be this weekend (the part only got to my local store a week and a half ago, so I'm not that far behind).
I swapped both parts with no problem. The Magsafe one works great, but the battery connector has been causing it to sleep, just like the one at the store. I know there's a chance that BOTH parts were defective, but I'm not convinced that's the case. It wakes up for a split second, just enough to see the desktop, and goes back to sleep. The battery is registering a full charge, so that's a plus and means it's working as intended that way, but now it's just the sleeping issue.
I tried putting in the old part again, and it didn't sleep, nor did it recognize the battery or charge it, so I put the new one back in to see if the battery would charge overnight (which it did!).
Does anybody have any ideas that I can try so that my poor laptop will stop going to sleep over and over? It would be much appreciated.
Another discovery after working on it some more: now that the battery is fully charged, when the old part is in, it still shows an X, but it runs off of the battery, as if it doesn't recognize it but is still able to access it.
If only I could combine the two parts, then I'd have the perfect one, right?
