Hey guys I have the 2.16 1gig macbook. Question is that it takes about 20 seconds for it to boot up. Would adding the extra gig of ram make it boot up any faster???? And pretty much is that the norm with everyone else with bootup as far as 20 seconds go????

20 seconds sounds about right. Some people (including me) are suffering from 30-40 second boot times with the new Santa Rosa MacBook Pro's.

Adding the extra gig won't boost your boot time. You already have a 1GB so you have plenty. The other gig will benefit you hugely if you run a lot of applications simultaneously or fancy doing any heavy video/photo/music editing.

Generally, you shouldn't need to shut your MacBook down that often. Sleep mode works fine. A restart every few days to refresh RAM or if you installed a piece of software that wants a reboot.

I have a 2gig 2.0ghz MB and when I got it I timed the boot and it took 25 seconds. So no, I don't think the extra ram will boot you faster. It doesn't need 1gb to boot, it for sure doesn't need 2gb.

If you are looking for a faster boot time when I'd do get a flash hard drive or something crazy like that. That may help a couple of seconds. 5 seconds at the most I'd say. It is completely not worth it.

Do you really need a couple of extra seconds in your life?

PLUS! Why the heck are you booting anyway? Why are you turning it off? WTF?!?! Don't, it will wake from sleep faster than 20 seconds so that will save you your time there! I never turn my MB off. The only time it goes off is when I have to reboot to install something. Sometimes if I'm rebooting to install and then I'm not going to use it for a while I'll just leave it off, just because. Unless you aren't going to use your MB for more than a couple of days then DON'T TURN IT OFF!!!

Haha ok well I don't really care about how fast it boots just wondering what the normal times are. I mean 20 seconds is super fast for me compared to my old dinosouar PC. Well I always turn off my laptop at night. Who knows just me not wanting to waste energy I guess. So yeah pretty much I don't really leave it on sleep unless I walk away from it when I'm using it but other then that yeah I just turn it off at night.

When I put my computer to sleep I always unplug the power cord.

Who knows when my battery might decide to explode.

Yeah pretty much my computer is always plugged in. So when I shut it down at night I still leave it plugged in as well. Is that ok or should I unplug the power cord too?????

I'd just unplug it.

There is no need to have the power cord in, and it is just a precaution really. When the laptop is powered off, you won't loose any battery power (unless you leave it for days).
