Macbook Burning Hot

Hi,

I've installed Windows XP SP2 on my Macbook (2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM) and I have noticed that the upper left hand side of the notebook where the ports are located is very hot, sometimes too hot to touch. I'm worried that it might be slowly "frying" my computer. I only use Windows for Microsoft Office 2003 and nothing else, also the bottom gets extreamly hot ( I could probably fry an egg on it )

Should I be worried? I have the bootcamp 1.4 drivers should I upgrade to the 2.0 drivers?

The upper left is near the DC input and the Airport card. Those two components get rather hot even in OS X.

It sounds like you're running Tiger and using the 1.4 Beta drivers. I didn't find the 2.0 drivers to make my MacBook run cool.

You can use Office 2008 on your mac side now. No need for windows.

Sethro if it is merely Office you are using then I suggest you give Parallels or VMWare Fusion a try.

Yes, I discovered that running Windows natively on my MB Pro was very warm as well, so warm that I was worried. Very very fast though, compared to my work computer. I wopuld have thought that the Apple hardware drivers for Windows would take care of this problem.

Now I just run Windows in a virtual machine and get about the same performance as my work computer and OS X stays running and keeps the fans going and my machine cool(er).

Are you running all of the hotfixes since SP2 came out. There's a hotfix specific to Intel C2D processors. It might help. I've noticed my XP behaves better now with it running.

The Core 2 Duo fix doesn't apply here. The latter might be useful but I've found my Apple hardware to always be hotter under Windows even with the latest drivers and Windows updates.

I'll give your tip a try hodgjy. I tried Parallels in the past, Windows always felt slow and the fan's on my Macbook would become very loud, but I appreciate your suggestion, maybe the developers inproved Parallels.

Do you guys know if Apple will release any more updated drivers after 2.0 Bootcamp ones included in Leopard?

Do you guys think I should get a cooling pad or cooling fan to put under the computer when running Windows.

I know this aint a total fix or workround but if you have smcfancontrol
whack the fans up while in os x reboot in windows ( not shut down )
and your fans should stay at the same rpm you set them to while in os x
