MacBook can't see iMac on the network

My iMac can see the macbook on the sidebar of finder but not the other way around. I've rebooted all machines many times and restarted all networking devices. Any tips?

Both on Sl, then both upgraded to Lion. Same problem.

I'm having similar issues with my mac mini and mbp. I have file sharing on for both and have set my mbp on the mini as a user and got admin rights.
I can screen share from the mbp but as far as copying files it will not allow to log on even though I use the details for the user I just created. I even tried setting up another user but no luck.
