Hi,
I bought my macbook about 3.5 weeks ago (25 July, directly from Apple store) and there are two very thin cracks forming on the case. They are both forming on the front (same panel as sleep light and IR sensor). One is about half an inch long, but the other runs from the magnetic part (where the lid closes) all the way to the I/O port side. I've treated this laptop very well and have NOT dropped it. It rarely leaves my desk. Last night, the crack that is currently VERY long was shorter than the other, and it has not left my desk since.

Is this normal (I assume not) and should I take it to Apple? School starts tomorrow for me so being without my laptop for any more than a week would not be good.

I'll try to get some pics up later tonight.

I'm on my 2nd lower case replaced under AppleCare, pisses me off that I've read about at least 5 people on these forums with the same issue yet Apple "aren't aware" of the problem:rolleyes: shoddy design IMO.

Once the parts are in stock (my local Apple reseller had them in 'cause it's a common problem) it's a quick fix, couple of hours I was without mine.

I had the same problem too and got it fixed under warranty at the Genius Bar.
Well, hopefully I won't have to send it in and I can get it fixed overnight or something. Appointment at keystone tomorrow at 20:00. Now I have a real reason to go to the store... I want to see those new iMacs!

Macbook cracking thread

There have been several threads about this around here. I documented part of my Macbook experience in the thread above.

For me, this problem became more trouble than it was worth. So, I no longer have a Macbook. Good luck.
