Macbook CD won't read CDs?

I'm running a baseline Macbook CD, and just today I put a CD into the slot and without even spinning up it got spit back out. iTunes didn't pick it up or show any info and the CD never showed up in Finder. It just went in and popped out. I immediately tried another disc, and everything went as expected with it...it showed up in finder, and it caused iTunes to open, read the tracks, and prepare to import.

Has anyone had this same problem?

For the record, the CD was the The Shins's Chutes Too Narrow.

Thanks for any info you can offer...I really need to get this onto my iPod.
