i was expecting a portable version of the Mac Mini as the MacBooks. But then they show us a DualCore 1.83GHz as the base model?!? They by far surpass expectations 
I love it. It's the fastest computer I have ever owned. A dedicated GPU and longer battery life would've been nice; but as it is, it suites my needs just fine.
I just switched from a macbook 2.0 ghz back to a powerbook G4. I purchased my original macbook the 2nd day after the announcement. It had the usual issues that plagued the first bunch but. Apple agreed to replace it and the new one had no issues at all. I was very pleased... couldn't have been happier with the thing. The battery life was really good, the display was great, and the overall quality of construction was pretty good. It was extremely fast once I upgraded the ram, especially with universal apps. I just got sick of running powerpc apps through emulation. I'm loving the new powerbook.
Really, everyone loves the MacBook?
Even after a month and a half you still aren't seeing hideous black stains appearing on the palm rest and on the trackpad?
Oh well, I guess everyone else is either blind, or Apple fixed the problem on later models and is leaving the early adopters hanging in the wind.

I think I am in between OK and overall satisfied.
I am a bit mad that Apple will not confess to the Moo as an issue. People are getting MacBooks that are built later and do not have this issue, yet they claim this is normal. If it is, it should happen to every model no matter when it is built and shouldnt have seen it in the first few production weeks.
I am also a bit mad at the fact that they allow the system to get so hot and blaim the CPU. Although it is the CPU's fault, it is in actuality the form factor of the MacBook. If they simply made the vents on the side with an intake and a outtake vent, the thing would run much cooler than it is currently, like many of the PC CoreDuo.
However, I switched from a 12'' G4 PowerBook and I must say this thing is a beast compared to the PowerBook. It is fast. Very very fast. I also love the screen and all. Although the keyboard is definitely a different feel and does cause errors, I actually prefer it more now. I still wouldnt trade it back for my PowerBook because this thing is definitely a great system.

Absolutely loving my 1,83 one too! It is completely silent, and because it is so fast I put it on "Better energy savings" on both battery and adapter, and then it really does not get too warm at all. And I don't notice any performance difference in everyday surfing life.
i just traded my PB (1.67, 1 gig RAM) for the MB (2.0, 1.25 gig RAM) i have now and i love it (well, it's only been 2 days so far.. heh). my PB was great, too, but this MB is definitely more "snappy".
also, it's only a week old, so *hopefully* the earlier problems that plagued so many MBs don't pop up on mine...

Fantastic! Can't really complain. Although I have just had my first crash...lets hope its the last . Oh, and I thought I'd broken it when I installed new RAM, as there's nothing really to tell you that you've pushed it all in far enough, so I ended up thinking I'd pushed it in too far...

Edges are a bit sharp and uncomfortable, but it has stopped bothering me. Far superior than the 12" PB it replaced, and I don't have any of the problems everyone else is having (moo, etc)

I have had my MacBook for 1 month, and my palm rest area had a very slight stain that I couldn't even see. My friends spotted it, and could only see it under a particular florescent light. Otherwise, they couldn't see it either. Hey, that's what you get for having a white/light grey laptop. Get some cleaner of some sort, spray it on, and wipe it off. I have accepted the fact that my body produces oils, and my hands aren't completely clean when I use my MacBook.
I'm not saying that the problem doesn't exist. I'm just saying that some people have the problem and complain about it (which is fine), and then some people come and join in on the complaining when a very very slight discolouration appearing on their MacBook palmrests (which isn't nearly as severe as the problem some people have). This problem doesn't have anything to do with the plastics involved, but has to do with natural staining that is more related to how clean your hands are rather than a manufacturing defect of any sort.
So yes, there are people who actually suffer from a real manufacturing flaw and suffer very brown stains in a matter of a week, and some who just whine when a very slight discolouration appears after several weeks (which is entirely natural).

No, noone is blind. I have a MacBook which I bought May 23rd. 7 days after the MB release. I was like number 4 in Denmark that bought one, so this is definiantly an early MacBook, made before the release, which means Apple hasn't had time to fix any problems. I guess you're just being picky about your MB. Try enjoying it for once. Stop WHINING!
I relly enjoy my MB. It does everything my old laptop couldn't, and much more!
It will be great, but right now I'm a little pissed off.
1) Found out yesterday on inserting the 1st disc in the optical drive that the optical drive isn't connected.
2) The chassis isn't 100% level the front right palm rest is ever so slight off the tabletop.
(this will sound really petty but I know it's going to annoy me long term)
3) The top edge around the lower section is sharp. When I'm typing my wrists are in danger of getting slashed!

my MacBooks been great! feels very snappy! (admittedly, I was upgrading from a 400Mhz PowerBook with 384MB RAM!)
i have no stains, it does get dirty but a slightly damp cloth and it comes right off! and have had no mooing, i have heard the fans on a few occasions, but what can you expect? it is the slimmest laptop i have ever seen (apart from the MBP) so i am not complaining
if you are hesitiating, just go out and get one, yo wont regret it!
