Macbook Drive Failing to Burn Discs

Every time I go into iTunes to try and burn an audio disk, I get a message saying that "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." and the disc is ejected from the computer. I have no idea what has caused this problem (this didn't occur after any new installations of programs that I can remember or a re-formatting of the computer, etc) and when I try to use my external burner everything works fine.

After this happened multiple times, I then tried to just burn a data disc with files from my computer, but the burn also immediatly fails and the disc is ejected.

Anybody have some ideas/solutions?

I don't know too much about hardware but I do remember a firmware update not too long ago...when was the last time you updated your computer?

are you sure it isnt the media ? Media don't work the same in all drives. Some drives are more picky that others. Before you worry about this I would get some quality media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) and try again.

This happened to me on my PowerMac G5 Tower with a certain brand of CD's (sorry I can't remember the name) Anyways, I dusted off some older CD's I had and they worked fine. I'm pretty sure this error pertains to the CD not being Mac compatible. Are the CD's older? Try to download any software updates that you may not have and if all else fails, I'd personally try a different brand of CDs.

Thanks for the quick responses/suggestions. I grabbed a Verbatim disc (had been using a stack of memorex ones) and it works just fine. I guess there is something to be said for higher quality discs....
