Hit there I am a happy switcher!:)
I use my macbook 1.83Ghz white with no problems for the last 2 & 1/2 months.
But the first problem just appeared..
I connect my macbook with an external display via a minidvi to vga cable , in order to use it with the lid closed.

The problem is that SOMETIMES when i disconnect my macbook from the external display the macbook's screen doesn't turn on.And i have to do a restart.

Yesterday I connected it to the external display , but the display just showed the blue background with no icons at all. I couldn't again power the macbook's screen so I restarted.

The problem is that this happens not every time but once in a while!
Does anybody else have similar problems?
Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem with my Macbook CD and an HP f2105 display. I find I have to open my Macbook's lid and use detect displays before I disconnect.

Ha! I think I find a solution that seems correct so far!

For connection:
The macbook is open.
I connect everything(wireless usb keyboard, mouse and external display)
sleep
wake the mac from external keyboard/mouse

For disconnection:
If I sleep the mac and disconnect the external diplay and then open the lid , the macbook's screen doesn't turn on.
If I sleep the mac, open the lid and then disconnect the display , the macbook's screen STILL doesn't turn on.
If I open the lid(when the mac is still on) & disconnect the display the macbook's screen is turned on!!

The thing with "detect displays" you mention works for me too.

I think that Apple's manual should explain more thoroughly the process of connection & disconnection.
