So I was playing around with git on my mac and it ended up ruining the Users/username folder (set it up in the wrong directory), so i tried to delete some files in my /Users/username folder. My mac just factory reset (kinda) so i'm not sure if i deleted any wrong files. I still have all my applications and most of my files, but all my data reset and I lost some important stuff. Wondering if anyone knows what could've happened.

The only thing I can think of would be that some important system files in your home folder were deleted. What do you mean by "factory reset?" Also, does the system log in anymore after the files were deleted?

You'd better back up the remaining data and use Erase All Content and Settings (provided you have a compatible Mac) so you have a clean system to start over from.

Everything is normal, its just that I lost all my data. All my applications are there but its all reset, which I think it means I deleted something which triggered some sort of reset.

Yep. I wouldn't know what file specifically that was, but I'd still do a complete wipe (or EACAS) to make sure your "broken account" doesn't become more broken, you know what I mean? I guess it's up to you what you do ultimately, this is just my suggestion.

What Mac are you using? And do you know how to wipe it, if you want to do that? Because I'm more than happy to help you if you need!

I have a Macbook Air M1 2020. I'm currently on Big Sur so I'm going to update it to Ventura to do the EACAS reset. Let me know if you think I should do an alternative to that.

I think EACAS sounds like a great idea!! Let me know how it goes/if it fixes your issue (which it should).
