Is it normal for the MacBook fans to max out at 6000 RPMs when even just watching a 1080p video?

Is the computer on a flat surface thats getting decent airflow? 9 times out of 10 the computer isn't getting the proper ventalation it needs.

It is on a flat surface. I'm going to try sitting it where there is more airflow and see if that helps.

Can you explain to me why you would be watching a 1080p video on a Macbook with a 1280 x 800 screen?

Its hooked up to an external display. More airflow didn't help.

i used a box fan and put it under my computer and it cooled a lot.

and it is normal for a macbook to kick up the fans when watching 1080p movies. it happens to me also so dont worry and for the person that asked why are you watching 1080p movies is because it looks ALOT BETTER DUH!!! you can see a difference from 720 to 1080 just to let you know.

Well, the MacBook display is only 720p afterall...

i know its 720p but really download a 720p clip from apple and download the same clip except in 1080p and you will see a difference. It might not be true HD but its a difference.
