I currently have a MacBook connected to my Airport Extreme via wireless 802.11g. I would like to connect a USB HD to the AEBS to store my HD videos. I would also like to add an AppleTV to the mix in order to play back the HD content on my HDTV.

If the movies are stored on the AEBS HD, which are referenced on my MacBook's iTunes Library, when the AppleTV attempts to play a movie, is it streamed from the AEBS to the MacBook then to the AppleTV? Or would the AppleTV grab the content right from the AEBS?

I am worried that the g's bandwidth would cripple the playback to the AppleTV. Anyone have a similar setup?

It would be nice if it streamed directly from the Airport but I highly doubt that's the case.

TV streams from iTunes, wherever it is stored... in this case, on your Macbook.

I have this exact setup using a 3 year old G4 Powerbook. I am unable to stream video this way but am able to listen to music on the TV. I am assuming that there is just simply to much streaming going on with video for this to happen. It seems like I have read a post on here before where someone has this working, but I have had no luck. It could be because I am using an older PowerBook G4 though. It may work with some of the newer machines.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this to work for me, please let me know. I have filled the 160gig HD up on the TV and have about 500gigs of video just sitting on an external drive that I have to plug into my PowerBook everytime I want to watch a new video.

I had a similar set up - it did not work because while you can connect the AppleTV to Airport using N, the video actually streams from the airport to your computer and then back to the airport before going to the AppleTV - so it stutters.

This is what I did:

I have a Mac Mini connected to my N router via ethernet (airport is turned off) and my USB drive connected to the Mini as well. Now it streams fine.
