OK, I have something wierd going on and it's bothering me a little.
Here are the particulars: Macbook 2ghz, 512MB; Sharp LC46D62U 1080p; mini-DVI to DVI to HDMI; audio out to Sharp L/R
I have the Macbook hooked up to the TV with a DVI/HDMI cable. I have screen spanning on with the TV as the main display. Resolutions are set at 1920x1080 (interlaced) on the TV and 1280x800 on the Macbook. Both are set to the max color depth.
When using FrontRow, I have two issues. The first is that the menus don't have the "slide back" look when going backwards. By "slide back" I mean that the menus slide off the screen and the previous menu slides on. Also, when playing iPhoto slide shows, the music cuts out after about a second. The photos work fine. If I pause and start the show, the music comes back on, but after a second, it cuts out again.
If I manually set the TV's resolution to 1280x720 (progressive), the menus "slide" correctly and the music plays fine.
I'm wondering if it's an issue with the video card not having enough "oomph" to drive a 1920x1080i screen in conjunction with the 1280x800 screen on the Macbook. If I set the displays to Mirror, I'm limited to the 1280x800 screen resolution of the Macbook.
Would more RAM be helpful?
I'm trying to find a way to override the screen resolutions so that it can mirror a 1920x1080 screen to save on video RAM. I remember my iBook may have been able to mirror a higher resolution than 1024x768 with a virtual desktop on the laptop screen. Can't seem to do that on the MacBook.
I also do not have a USB mouse/keyboard to do the sleep/wake-up tricks.
Another wrinkle is that I intended to buy a Mac mini to hook-up to the TV permanently. Can anyone confirm that a Mac mini is able to send a 1920x1080 (progressive) signal?
Thanks
