I am thinking about buying a MacBook (in early January), but the one thing bugging me about it, is this one question... Could I use the MacBook on my lap, with everyday uses (internet, music, chat, word processing... ect.) and if it does not, will this be bad for the MacBook??

yeah you should be fine i use mine on my lap quite alot. the macbook it self does get a bit hot through during certain tasks, so keep it relativly smal processes and you should be fine

I travel everywhere with my MacBook and it's sitting on my lap for the majority of the day. I email from it, rock out to some top tunes, watch 'Two and a Half Men' on the train with it and I'm currently writing my PhD thesis on it. It gets warm when I make the processor really work when playing games but it's never got burning hot. As far as I understand it's only the MBP that has heat problems where people have complained about it being too much!

:D

It gets hot. Never too bad that you can't use it in your lap, but pretty hot. It also shouldn't affect the computer, so you're fine.

The Macbooks in general do not have heat issues (C2D versions).

So don't worry too much about the heat. If it is desperately unbearable, you might want to try the software called SMCfanControl. It helps control your fan speed and only allows you to change it within Apple's recommendation.

Seeing that you'll get one only in January, you will be pleased to know that there'll be updates to the Macbook. Many suggest an aluminium look, following the trend of iMacs and iPods. So if you want to get a Macbook for it's white plastic feel, you can still get it when it updates (eBay, Apple stores - limited time).

Enjoy:D
