Is it a Core 2 Duo Macbook, or one of the original Core Duos ? My Core Duo is running at about 28 - 30, it does go up to about 47 when under a bit of strain, but I don't recall seeing it higher.
I actually have multiple posts on this topic... I'm trying to find out what are the normal operating temperature of the Macbook C2D... Mine right now is at 62C with Firefox on... which in my opinion is quite hot. It seems that in average most people are seeing 50-55... Reports of 30 or 40 are way too low unless the computer is kept on ice

Maybe on C2D, but my CD is normally 28 . The hinge for the screen is definitely hot, but it's cool otherwise. And no it's not on ice, it's sitting on my desk running iTunes, Firefox, Mail, Stickies, Adium and Terminal.

There is no way that the CPU is running at 28 °C.

See the above link to thread... I finally took it to apple, and at least at the store the laptops sitting there with minimum apps open were running 54-57 under normal iddling. With yes command in terminal temperatures hit 87... So, the genius guy thought it's probably normal. Now, he could not find any specific temperatures though...
Not lying, using the iStat widget. Maybe it does read incorrectly, but that's the temperature it's reading. As long as it's not reading 90 C i'm happy. Although it came close the other day (82) and the fans kicked in big time, I watched it go down to 57 before it settled.
I gather the temp readings depend on the software used to get this info and the sensors they are using - there are several.
In my case, I use CoreDuo Temp and smcfancontrol - and they are usually within a degree or two of each other. This is usually around 46c for basic running - and this is down from 53c by use of smcfancontrol and tweaking the minimum fan speed up from 1500 to 3000 rpm. I also keep my MacBook slightly raised (two erasers at the back, if you must know) when sitting n a desk to help it wick heat better.
