Hello all,

I recently tried to open up front row with my remote, but it didn't work at all. It had worked in the past, but the last time I successfully opened it up was probably before I'd replaced my hard drive with a 160gb Seagate laptop drive. Anyway, I've checked to see if the remote battery is dead and if the remote is sending IR signals, and it is, so it's most likely not the remote's problem. Is there a way I can conclusively diagnose and/or fix this issue cheaply and without sending it in at my expense to Apple? I just want the damn thing to work.

Thanks.

Under security, the last setting (I believe) has an option to disable the IR, ensure it's not. Secondly, pop in the install CD, hit C when it restarts and do a full diagnostics check?

I assume that the second will check the IR receiver for operation and alert you towards any problem.

I know the sensor isn't disabled in that menu, but I'll try the thing with the startup disk. Thanks.

EDIT: All I could find when booting from the CD was a little diagnostics pane inside the system profiler which had nothing in it. When I just opened system profiler up it just stated the last when the system passed a POST.

Alright, I tried a coworker's remote, and it didn't work on mine, whereas both of ours were able to control the volume on his MBP. My sensor may be FUBAR, as I've tried to use it in both OS X and Win XP. My warranty may either be void or expired, so what do I do? I'm not bloody happy with this, but I'm willing to try and fix it if someone can help me through it.

Thanks.

Well, I found out that when installing my new hard drive I tore the cable from the IR sensor/little blinking LED. Does anyone know if I can fix this myself? I can get a picture of the cable in question if necessary. Thanks.
