Bought my macbook last wednesday and Friday the isight stopped working. it says it is either not connected or in use by another program. Need some help! I am running 10.4.6 and have done all of the regular remedies (i.e. permissions, restarting, etc.). Anybody else have this happen to them?

Take a look in the System Profiler program (it's in the Utilities folder) and see whether OSX still sees the iSight as being there. I'm afraid I'm away from my iSight equipped Mac today so can't tell you under which category it falls.

If it doesn't show at all, you've likely got a hardware fault. If it shows up in there, it's probably software, in which case check your Sys Prefs>>Accounts>>Login Items to see if anything is attempting to access it at startup.

Best of luck.

I don't see anything in the system profiler. Would it be under usb bus. I always thought it was a firewire connection but I could be wrong.

It will be under one of either USB or Firewire. The external ones are firewire, but you never know.

I'm wishing I was sat in front of my iMac so I'd be able to say for certain. Sadly, I'm sat in a basement with only my PowerBook for company.
