macbook keys sticking

Hey all.
I need some help with a very *sticky* problem.

I recently purchased my first mac since the 1990 classic, and i am loving it (c2d macbook, white, gig ram etc).

However, I have managed, already, to have spilt roughly 4 oz. of sugary energy drink on the keyboard. When the spill happened, I immediately turned it over and started spraying the keys with canned air, but the delete key and enter key are sticky. I press down on them and they take about a second or two to come back up, awful if you have to backspace more than 2 characters. also, the delete key is getting worse, not better, the more it sits. I am wondering if it is possible to simply gently pry the key up with a fingernail/x-acto knife and clean with alchohol, and then pop back into place. I am afraid of popping the key off only to discover I cannot get it back on. any guidance would be great.

Phone Apple and send the machine in, or go to your local Apple Authorized Repair Center, and tell them what is up. They should replace your top case.

2 questions:

Will they replace it even if I do not have apple care (because I do not)?

Will they not record this a fluid damage and if i ever have problems under warranty, write it off as fluid damage?

Jut trying to cover my corners. also, is it possible to just pop that key off and on? or is that a delicate situation.

I did not read the fluid spill. And because of that your Serial will be permanently marked. Might as well ebay the machine as if anything else goes wrong they will charge you out the ass and give you no garuntee on the work because it is an abuse case.

well I have a ton of extremely sensitive data on the current HD. Replacing it with a seagate equivalent and then selling it on ebay would be a bit too much of a hassle at this point. I will just shoot from the hip and pop the keys and see what happens. I will post back with pictures and a how-to assuming I'm successful. Thanks for the opinions.

Yeah, please let me know! My F key feels sticky, yet it's a new replacement keyboard which has certainly not had anything spilled on it. I'm dying to take off the key and find out what's making it stay depressed for a few seconds when I press it!

ewww sticky keyboard......are you sure the reason they're sticky is because of a drink?
