After calibrating my MacBook LCD which resulted in much less washout, I discovered that OSX actually has transparent menus. Like when one clicks "File" the menu items are transparent.

I think that it is weird that the default "Color LCD" profile would be such that one cannot see the transparency.

Maybe I'm not following the instructions properly, but everytime I try to calibrate I always end up creating a profile that looks worse than the default. Like the screen is slanted toward one color.:(

I'm gonna step out into n00bville here, but where does one find information about this calibration technique?

Generically:

You'll probably want to start at-

http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/color_management.htm

and drill down to-

http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/monitor_calibration.htm

If you're just curious about the built-in stuff:

System Preferences->Displays->Color->Calibrate

or read-

http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-2506.html

or-

http://www.apple.com/pro/color/workflow/basics.html
