Macbook LCD screen bloth/bruise ?

I've noticed something very strange on my LCD screen on my C2D macbook. It's located in the right middle side of the screen. It's only noticable if you look at the LCD screen at an angle and the screen is showing all white at that spot (e.g. a web page like google).

The only way I can describe it is a bruise or blotch that's a bit darker than the rest of the area. It's about the same size as 2 pennies next to one another, but it's not solid. More like brush storks at an angle.

Normally, it's imposible to see, except when the screen is at an angle + white background.

Does anyone know what this might be? Should I just ignore it, or have Apple take a look at it?

MBP C2D permanent screen smudge

I think my Macbook Pro has the same issue as the one that you are describing. The blotch on my screen looks more like a permanent smudge on the screen which is quite noticeable on a while background.

I am taking mine in tomorrow to be looked at. Has anyone got any suggestions of what could be causing this? Am I protected under applecare?

You should be, I had some bruising on my last LCD on my MacBook Pro and they replaced the screen when sent in for the heating up while sleeping issue.

I just got back from the Apple store. According to the apple "genius", it's not an issue since it's only visible at ~45 degrees off straight (to the left, right, up or down) and is only visible within 5 degrees range.

According to Apple, people don't use their screens at such angles. The "smuge" isn't visible when you look head on, and as such it's within "LCD specs" and they can't do anything for me.

If someone puts a finger print on their screen and look at it, it'll look the same way (except that the screen is perfectly clean with no visible smudge on the surface).

I checked other laptops in the store while I was there, and none have it. Then again, this machine doesn't have any stuck pixels.. which is good (since a stuck pixel you can ALWAYS see!)

I just got my mac book pro a month ago and switched from PC. Since then, I have been traveling and didn't pay much attention to the bruise and thought this is just a smudge I can wipe away. The bruise was always there even when I opened the box. I am disappointed since this is such an expansive hardware. Did anyone of you has successfully get it fix on apple's own expanse? Do you guys know what cause this problem in the first place? It is a manufacture defect and somehow the keyboard could do damage to the screen while traveling?

I just wanted to update this thread to let people know that Apple will cover the repair in the protection plan. You just have to make sure that you say that it was through no fault of your own, and that there is no physical damage on the system. I was able to replace the top case of my macbook along with the screen.

This is the white spot issue that some of Apple's products have been known to have. If you are under the plan, be sure to clean your macbook and make it as neat as possible. The white spots happen due to "rough" use. I have them as well and it's kind of a bummer but...what can I do without applecare besides payout 300+ dollars to have it fixed?

Hmm I dunno I was just estimating...but I mean 1000 dollars to get the lcd fix? Wouldn't a person just buy bran new macbook instead?
