Been having a problem with my 6 week old 2 ghz MacBook C2D.
At first I had a sleep problem. I would put it to sleep by closing the lid, wait for the light to start pulsing, then stuff it in my manpurse, 30 minutes later I pull it out, the fan is racing and it's hot as hell and won't wake up, push power button to shutdown. I thought maybe it was how I was putting to sleep was causing it, tried option/command/eject to put it to sleep, didn't solve it. Searched these forums, zapped PRAM, it seemed to fix it.

Now, pretty much daily, I would click on something, get the pinwheel of death, option/command/esc or anything else would not bring it out of it, power button to shutdown and start over. Can't come up with anything consistent for when it does it, I could just click on something after it has been sitting for a minute or two it would do it, click on few things fairly quick it would cause it, no consistency. Thought maybe it was because of the "Turn off hardrive when possible" feature enabled in Powersave, but it does it before the hard drive even has had a chance to sleep.
I put 2 gb's of Gskill in it about 3 weeks ago along with a 160 gb WD hard drive.
I ran the GUI version of Memtest osx, no problems, ran the extended version of Apple Hardware Test, no problems.
Anybody have any ideas?
Been a user for over 4 years, love Apple, love Mac, ain't ever gonna give up on them.
Thanks in advance.

Take the RAM out to test it, rather than use a software-based testing app. Those apps are okay, but pretty notorious for giving the okay to bad RAM. :)

Well come to my world my friend. What ever you do just don't do anything software wise to your computer! I have the exact problem... I've actually never seen a Mac freeze before until I got my MBP. Programs take about a minute and a half to start up after a restart. Screen comes on about 75% after sleep. Had 3 kernal panics. My screen dims down to about 3 bars every one and awhile so does my keyboard lights. um... what else... hmmm... Oh I have random restarts. Browsing internet gets me the beach ball of death about every 5 minutes if I have 2 tabs open.

So what do I mean by software? I have clear dock on my computer, which I guess is a big no no in the world of Apple. Infact i practically had to beg the guy to just look back at the screen (manager of Genius bar). Then his only solution for this crapbook pro was that things like clear dock are the problem and I have to go back to completely stock if I want any help.

I hear Apple service is great, sadly I haven not got to experience it yet... well the guy was nice so I guess that counts.

But as everyone is saying your sounds like the RAM... I just needed a thread to rant on...

Long story short:
Recently my MB would not even boot up, replaced the Western Digital with what came with my MB (Fujitsu). I have had zero problems in a week and half so it was the hard drive after all.
Strange part is the WD, in a external case, mounts and works fine!

So what brand next:
Hitachi Travelstar or Samsung Spinpoint
(both Newegg 250's for under $200) ???
