MacBook M1 and Chrome

For anyones use MacBook M1 with 8 GB. If you had opened 35 tabs in Chrome has Memory in Activity Monitor still green ?

Does it still snappy for browsing ?

38 tabs,opened a new youtube tab and played a 4k video

memory pressure certainely isnt green lol,and as u can see chrome is using over 5gb of ram.

but imho the browser and computer in general are still extremely snappy

i opened a lot of youtube and amazon because these sites are rather resource intensive i think...well youtube is,that's for sure

mind you i still closed all other apps ..and i assume you would have work apps and communication stuff opened as well.8gb is comfortable ,suprisingly .but i'd advise you to ger 16gb

jokes asides chrome doesnt use THAT much ram .and it is resource intensive for a reaso : each tab works within some kind of container ,sorta isolated ,with the extensions being isolated for each tab as well .

unless ofc i misunderstood how it works and in that case pls make sure to correct me

in any case safari is borderline unusable for me...too many sites broken or misbehaving

You could try open 60 websites list above and if it lag it might be something wrong with the Mac or Chrome for M1.

Well, I have seen that each website differs on memory weight. I usually see Youtube and WhatsApp web as top culprits for memory crunch.

Exactly, Chrome on Intel Mac’s was pretty rough but on the new Apple chips I have more memory warnings in Safari than Chrome. I literally had a chat window open with Apple support and got a “this website is using a large amount of memory” error. No other tabs or apps open either. Safari is weird these days.

60 ‘tabs’ is a large number, yes. But it doesn’t mean that every one of those tabs that you have opened are intensive. Opening 60 different tabs to a website doesn’t mean that this is a valid metric to
Compare, versus if you use 60 tabs that actually are more intensive of you media is being played, how large a file is, etc.

M1 known for memory leak.

Please do not spread false information!
M1 one does not cause memory leaks as it is hardware. Software causes memory leaks. And in the case of macOS some earlier versions of Monterey indeed leaked some memory.
And lets not talk about Chrome. Google is know for its sloppy leaky software coding practices!!!
